Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of U.Va.'s buildings, infrastructure and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.
The Master Maintenance Technician independently responds to all emergency calls in the Health System Complex and maintains all equipment to ensure proper operation during scheduled absence of primary work force. Incumbent maintains all systems in an operational condition and provides a safe and comfortable environment. The Master Maintenance Technician is a Health System Physical Plant shift worker and must have Journeyman level competency in a minimum of 2 trades.
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A minimum of 7 years' experience in plumbing, electrical or HVAC is required. A driver's license and journeyman or higher trades license is required for this position. A thorough knowledge of the maintenance trades with the ability to troubleshoot plumbing, electrical, mechanical and other problems is required, as well as the ability of provide a wide range of maintenance services with little or no direct supervision. The incumbent will also have journeyman level competency in a minimum of 2 trades. The ability to deal effectively with the public, as well as very good verbal, written and interpersonal skills is required. The ability to use computers and associated applications for time tracking and documentation of work is also required. The Master Maintenance Technician must have the ability to work overtime which could include nights and weekends and the ability to respond on an emergency basis as needed. Journeyman level competency in 3 trades is preferred.
The Health System Physical Plant is seeking an applicant for a Night/Weekend Day Shift position: two nights shifts 11p.m.- 7a.m. (Tuesday night, Wednesday night) and two weekend day shifts 7a.m.- 7p.m. (Saturday/Sunday). Cover as a relief shift mechanic when needed to maintain minimum staffing on other shifts.
