Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of U.Va.'s buildings, infrastructure and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.
Facilities Management is currently seeking applicants to fill multiple Systems Control Operator positions. Systems control operators remotely monitor systems and building fire alarms, as well as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems throughout the University. They handle emergency situations, notify appropriate internal and external responders, and provide prompt decision-making in a wide range of emergency and non-emergency situations. They ensure the integrity and effectiveness of building automation, energy management, and fire and life safety systems. They use professional judgment and critical decision-making skills to prioritize all requests for service, consulting with a supervisor for particularly complex operational changes.
A High School Diploma or equivalent is required, as are at least four years of experience working with any of the following: HVAC, mechanical/electrical systems, or energy management control systems. Prior work experience in a customer service orientated environment is essential. Applicants with an Associate's degree in a technical field and one year of professional experience may also be considered. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with customers and colleagues is essential. Applicants must have a proven knowledge of system troubleshooting techniques and problem solving skills. The ability to read and understand system graphics and block diagrams is required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office is required. Applicants with experience with Metasys, WebCtrl, or other Building Automation Systems are strongly encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to applicants that possess an Associate's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Applicants must have the ability to work a rotating schedule to include at minimum of two weekends a month and holidays to provide full coverage and on an as-needed basis for emergencies.
