Vanderbilt University seeks a Plumber Journeyman to perform routine plumbing work and plumbing construction/installation work. This is a full-time position: 40 hours per week. Must be available to work 7:30AM to 4:00PM. Must be available to work additional hours as required including evening hours. Pay is $24.50/hr.
Plant Operations provides facilities support for all construction, renovation, and routine maintenance of University Central space and facilities; housekeeping services for approximately 5.8 million square feet of academic, administrative, residential, and recreational space; grounds care for 330 acres that are a registered arboretum; turf care for athletic fields; and utilities for the University Central and the Medical Center.
Facilities annual budget exceeds $100 million in operating expenses and includes over 400 employees. Facilities manages major capital project expenditures totaling ~$125 million annually and facility renewal, replacement and large maintenance project expenditures totaling ~$20 million annually.
Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for maintaining, repairing and installing domestic water systems and sanitary sewer systems including backflow devices, steam domestic water heaters, plumbing fixtures, domestic recirculation pumps, domestic pressure regulating valves, storm sewer systems and irrigation systems.
Perform preventative maintenance (PM) program inspections and repairs.
Perform estimates, provide layouts for plumbing maintenance related items and respond to emergency plumbing calls.
Understand and interpret building codes, parts manuals, blueprints and schematics.
Profile of an Ideal Candidate:
5 Years of experience or the equivalent
Strong communication skills
Able to stand, stoop, crawl, work on elevated surfaces and be in awkward positions for extended periods of time.
Push, pull, lift and carry at least 70 pounds.
Able to work in various weather conditions
Must have high school diploma or GED
Valid driver's license
High work ethic
Journeyman Plumbers License is preferred
