The Facilities Management unit of the Division of Facilities and Services at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a Telecommunications Technician position at the Health Sciences Center. The incumbent, under the direction of the Department Manager, will perform work as a Journey level craftsman utilizing a variety of skill sets such as electrical, fire alarm maintenance, and telecommunications.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Work from blueprints and specifications, and in conjunction with supervisor, architects, engineers, factory representatives, install or provide for special equipment unique to each project.
Provide electrical power for signal circuits and equipment such as fire alarms, phones, computers, P.A. systems, intercoms, TV, satellite, audio visual, etc.
Make installation or provisions for equipment and controls of HVAC equipment, pumps, compressors etc.
Install and modify on-premises telecommunications cabling, (including fiber optics) in accordance with industry/university standards and guidelines.
Install conduit, wire rack, cable tray and other associated support systems for signal circuits and equipment such as phones, computers, P.A. systems, intercoms, TV, satellite, audio visual, etc.

Pay Grade: 13, WVU provides competitive wages for its employees, and takes experience and related education into consideration when determining appropriate salary.
Vocational or technical education of up to 18 months beyond high school .
At least one year of broad knowledge of building trades
Electrical licence is highly desirable.
Must be able to bend, lift and carry over 50 lbs., crawl, etc.
Must be able to operate lifting devices and tools.
