The Facilities Management unit of Facilities & Services at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a Trades Specialist I position at the Health Sciences Center. U nder the supervision of the Department Manager, this position will perform as a Journey level crafts-person with a variety of skills sets such as Electrical, Fire Alarm Maintenance and Telecommunications.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Work from blueprints and specifications and in conjunction with supervisor, architects, engineers, factory representatives, installs or provides for special equipment unique to each project.
Provide electrical power for signal circuits and equipment such as fire alarms, phones, computers, P.A. systems, intercoms, TV, satellite, audio visual, etc.
Make installation or provisions for equipment and controls of HVAC equipment, pumps, compressors etc.
Set-up systems, develop layouts, develop program and purchase components for fire alarm protection to support renovation projects in laboratories, large office complexes, access areas and classrooms in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Install, fabricate or modify fire protection equipment, wiring and devices working from blueprints, schematics and specifications and in conjunction with architects engineers, and/or factory representatives unique to each project.
Perform functional and operational testing using electronic test equipment and meters.
Be expected to work craft, coordinate with assigned non-craft individuals and complete task without close supervision utilizing blueprints and technical expertise.
Determine "technical solution" based on approved standards, plans and user requirements. Communicate directly with administrative services, customer, and warehouse personnel to complete project(s) with high quality results in a timely manner. Evaluate problem(s), status of project(s), man hours to complete work assignments.
Install and modify on-premises telecommunications cabling, (including fiber optics) in accordance with industry/university standards and guidelines.
Install conduit, wire rack, cable tray and other associated support systems for signal circuits and equipment such as phones, computers, P.A. systems, intercoms, TV, satellite, audio visual, etc.

Work Hours: Monday-Friday; 7 a.m. - 3 p.m.
PayGrade: 13, WVU provides competitive wages for its employees, and takes experience and related education into consideration when determining appropriate salary.
High School Diploma and up to 18 months of education/training beyond high school or equivalent is essential to provide incumbent skills needed to execute assigned tasks efficiently and safely. Must have broad knowledge of one or more trades.
At least two (2) years of broad knowledge of building trades.
Electrical journeyman license
Strong computer skills are required in word processing, data entry and PC diagnostics.
Ability to work in inclement weather conditions.
Physical requirements include:
Stooping, bending, crawling and climbing heights over 10 feet daily.
Lifting up to 50 pounds daily.
