The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington invites applications for a Laboratory Manager starting in Spring 2019. We are seeking a dynamic individual with strong skills, knowledge and experience in technical work involving the construction, operation and maintenance of specialized equipment relating to a scientific or research activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising skilled and semi-skilled workers and participate in technical work as described below. The candidate will also be responsible for safety of laboratory activities.
Supervises and responsible for building pre-production, model shop, or prototype units of laboratory developed equipment. Develops modifications for improvement of existing equipment. Designs, plans, layouts, assigns and inspects work in construction or repair of specialized electrical, mechanical and analytical apparatuses. Operates an overhead crane and a fork-lift. Collaborates with research scientists, research engineers, students and faculty members, who may have over-all supervision of research projects, in the design and functional application of research equipment and devices. Interacts with vendors and technical support of existing equipment. Purchase materials, parts and components.
High school graduation with vocational training in a related field. Five (5) years in the construction and maintenance of equipment or apparatus of the type related to the position or the equivalent experience.
Skill in the use of standard shop machine tools and measuring tools. Proficiency and accuracy in all duties performed. Experience and skills in carpentry, welding, plumbing, electrical, electronics, hydraulic systems. Experience in safety, inventory, lab management. Dedication and attention to detail.
