AdventHealth Orlando seeks to hire a Director who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.
Located on a lush tropical campus, our flagship hospital, 1,107-bed AdventHealth Orlando, serves as the major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and South America. AdventHealth Orlando houses one of the largest Emergency Departments and largest cardiac catheterization labs in the country. The Director – Engineering - ORL plans, develops, coordinates and administers the activities of the Facilities Management department to provide services, repairs and maintenance necessary to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the hospital, and to maintain a comfortable physical environment for patients, visitors and staff. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with State and Federal standards relating to the physical plant, system utilities and equipment. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
Thorough knowledge of National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA), other regulatory agencies' standards, and other applicable healthcare industry codes.
Extensive working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems with ability to read, understand and implement Life Safety Code building construction standards.
Excellent organizational, oral and mathematical skills including ability to understand and interpret statistical data and develop operations and capital financial budgets.
Ability to read, understand and interpret blueprints, drawings, floor plans and schedules as they relate to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC equipment, building structures and finishes.
Effective computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, and Excel
Thorough knowledge of Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) regulations (Preferred)
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or related field
Master's degree in Engineering, Business, or related field (Preferred)
Three (3) years of management/supervisory experience in a healthcare setting over the functions of engineering / facilities maintenance
Five (5) years of engineering/facilities maintenance experience
Seven years' experience in a healthcare environment (Preferred)
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:
Certified Healthcare Engineer (CHE) designation from the Florida Healthcare Engineering Association within one year of orientation or equivalent
Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) designation from the American Society for Healthcare Engineering or equivalent (Preferred)

Responsible for the preventative and corrective maintenance of electrical, mechanical and utility systems, maintaining cost effective measures through the efficient and effective use of labor and materials.
Develops annual Engineering Department operations and maintenance budget consistent with senior leadership parameters and restrictions.
Develops annual plan to allocate capital funding resources to infrastructure project requirements. Effectively prioritizes capital requirements to optimize use of available resources.
Performs routine and periodic evaluation and documentation of electrical, mechanical, and emergency systems to ensure proper levels of operation and redundancy.
Oversees minor construction and renovation projects ensuring timely and cost-effective completion and continuity of services.
Maintains proper documentation to comply with regulatory standards.
Ensures ongoing education and training programs for all staff to provide up-to-date knowledge of local, State and Federal agencies such as AHCA, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies; as well as with AdventHealth policies and procedures.
Provides advice and guidance to hospital department managers and other personnel in policy interpretations and related matters ensuring compliance.
Ensures ongoing education for compliance with DNV / ISO Standards.
Prepares and administers operating budgets incorporating long and short-term goals forecasting personnel, equipment, and professional development needs.
Manages and monitors the department's expenditures to assure fiscal responsibility and accountability.
Along with the Supervisor, provides strategic input and direction for facility upgrades ensuring long-term stability and sustainability of facilities engineering systems.
Develops, evaluates, and implements departmental policies and procedures, goals and objectives, and standards of work.
Supports and encourages professional development through participation in educational programs and professional organizations, and activities to maintain knowledge of national trends and to promote leading edge performance.
Encourages and promotes community involvement within department through participation in the American Heart Walk, Habitat for Humanity, United Way, Adopt-a-Family and other Hospital approved campaigns.
Promotes good staffing practices by maximizing the use of human resources; forecasts and anticipates personnel requirements consistent with fluctuations in projected workload. Holds staffing at or below benchmark standards.
Builds capabilities and capacity within the department by coaching, developing, evaluating and mentoring supervisors and other team members
