Detailed Job Description The College of Art and Design invites candidates to apply for the position of Operations Manager within our Facilities Department. The Operations Manager provides direction, leadership, and overall management responsibility for School of Art and School of Design support operations and facilities. The footprint for these two schools encompasses over 100,000 sq. ft. and includes a variety of specialized, shops, studios, computer labs, offices, and storage facilities. The Operations Manager occasionally may be required to provide emergency support or management during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Direct supervision and management of six full-time facilities staff members. Provides daily oversight, manages work schedules, and supports, mentors and evaluates.
Manages all facilities support operations. This includes oversight, management, and enforcement of all operational policies and procedures.
Must have a broad working knowledge of core Design, and Art and Craft curriculum, and facilities support needs. The College's facilities are comparable to an academic maker space and require not only a great breadth of experience and knowledge of both traditional analog devices and shop equipment, but also an understanding of, and experience managing evolving digital fabrication technology and operations.
Must be a life-long learner and able to support needs and structure as technology, curriculum, and the schools' or college mission(s) dictate.
Manages, directs, educates, and enforces all facilities' safe operating practices and ensures that students, faculty, and staff have received required safety training.
Manages and ensures that operation and operational support procedures comply with all RIT Environmental Health and Safety, as well as OSHA regulations and policies.
Manages and oversees operational support budgets. This includes oversight, planning, and reconciliation of department purchasing cards; supplies, repairs, and maintenance expenses; student and employee payroll; and other miscellaneous departmental costs.
Annual business planning, forecasting, and reporting. Performs analysis of programs and facilities' support success, develops and updates business plan in response to analysis.
Develops and refines processes and policies for user access, including eligibility, user agreement, and safety training. Must work collaboratively with faculty to create and maintain sound policies, workflows, and efficient access models.
Member of large facilities support team for the college. Teamwork, collaboration, sharing of resources, and backup support are core to the operational success of this team.
Required Minimum Qualifications
4 or more years of professional support and or managerial experience of Design, Wood, Metal, Glass, Digital Fabrication, or related support facilities
Operations management and or maker space management experience
Broad understanding and experience with shop/craft equipment and facilities
Understanding of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing systems, etc., especially as related to shop, studio, and maker space support
Basic understanding of 3D modeling, 3D printers, CNC routers and other fabrication equipment, processes, and workflows
Competent with computers, peripherals, and related software: Adobe Suite, Autodesk, Microsoft Office, and other applicable software applications
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication, analytical, and problem solving skills
