Perform a variety of technical and skilled duties involved in maintaining University of Minnesota, Morris boiler system. The person operates, maintains, monitors and repairs high and low pressure steam boilers and related equipment. Job Duties: Operate & Maintain 4 high pressure boilers, Time 40%
Effectively startup & shut down boilers as need for campus steam load.
Switches from gas to oil when required.
Maintain entire steam plant and related equipment.
Operate & maintain gasifier & equipment Time 30%
Safely startup & shut down campus gassifier.
Monitor & adjust fuel on walking floor.
Monitor entire ash conveying system.
Monitor gas temperatures at all stages of combustion.
Maintain boiler water chemistry Time 20%
Check boiler and makeup water chemistry
Add proper chemicals to boiler and makeup water.
Maintain softener, de-alkalizer, & RO system.
Operate, adjust, and calibrate automated blow down controllers.
Operate Energy Management System Time 5%
Start, stop, and make necessary changes on campus HVAC equipment.
Have knowledge of building and equipment that serves them.
Cleaning Heating Plant Time 5%
Sweep floors, empty and clean restroom daily.
Pick up tools, equipment, and clean work bench daily.
Strip and wax floors annually.
The University of Minnesota Morris Facilities Management seeks a Senior Boiler Engineer (part-time). This position is twelve months, 0 - 40 hours a week, hours will vary and rotate over a 24 hour period. This position is represented by a Bargaining Unit: Teamsters. The qualifications are as follows:
Essential and Non-Essential Functions: High school graduation or equivalent plus three years of experience working in the operation and maintenance at a steam plant and appropriate licensure for the facility. First Class Engineer License Grade A or B is required. Knowledge and ability to run/operate a gasifier and equipment, boiler water chemistry, and operate energy management system.
Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities Must be able to read and write English. Educational training and ability to operate, maintain, monitor, and repair high and low pressure steam boilers and related equipment.
This person must be able to lift 50 pounds from the floor to a height of a 60-inch brine tank. Also, must be able to climb stairs and ladders to access top of boilers and dearator. This position may require ability to crawl, crouch, kneel, stoop, grasp, and read instrument panels.
