Departmental Overview Under the auspices of the College of Engineering Dean's Office, Richmond Field Station (RFS) Operations and Facilities Management is responsible for maintenance of the physical plant at the Richmond site consisting of over 80 buildings and structures and involving approximately 500,000 assignable square feet. The staff of over 20+ includes the RFS manager, Superintendent, Management Services Officer, Skilled Craftspeople, Facilities Mgt Specialist 2, Laborers, Custodians and Student Workers. Under the direction of the Custodian Supervisor and the Superintendent, the incumbent, is responsible for the interior upkeep of buildings, both inside and limited areas outside. The incumbent shall work in a manner that is both safe to self and building occupants.
The incumbent provides support on a variety of custodial tasks, trash and recycling tasks and other duties as assigned. May work independently, as part of a team, and may also be assigned to perform tasks for the RSF manager.
Responsibilities 30% On a daily basis, maintain all floors in a clean and safe condition by sweeping and mopping; waxing as needed. Sweep all building entrances out to the last step or at least ten feet out from roof line. Vacuum carpets daily or as needed.
30% On a daily basis, clean plumbing fixtures and polish chrome in all restrooms and lunch rooms, including washbasins, mirrors, toilets and urinals. Replenish all custodial supplies when needed. Wash walls twice a year and spot clean when needed.
10% On a daily basis, empty all safe trash from interior receptacles and ash trays at entrances (i.e. 25 ft zone). Report to supervisor any unsafe trash or chemicals found on premises while cleaning.
10% Twice a year, wash all windows, inside and outside that can be reached with assigned equipment.
10% Assist Custodial Supervisor with special functions (e.g. setting up furniture, special equipment, and restoring conference room conditions back to normal after each usage). Respond to infrequent and custodial requests by customers. Report frequent or maintenance requests to the Custodial Supervisor. Report all lost and found articles to the Operations front desk. Maintain good condition and properly store away custodial equipments. Perform, and complete, other duties as assigned.
Attend weekly, monthly and quarterly staff meetings
5% On a daily basis, dust furniture and table tops when needed, clean all chalk boards or white boards, clean kitchen basins.
5% When needed, replace conventional fluorescent and incandescent lamps that are accessible in overhead light fixtures from an eight foot ladder.
Minimum 1 year custodial experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrate customer service skills and team focused behaviors.
Maintain good working relationships with customers, co-workers and staff.
Record of reliability, good attendance, punctuality and follow-through on jobs.
Work efficiently and follow all safety procedures.
Operate floor machines, vacuums and carpet shampooers.
Lift and maneuver items weighing up to 100 lbs safely (with assistance from equipment for larger items).
Read, write and follow oral and written operational and safety instructions; read, write, and perform basic arithmetic calculations.
Possess a valid California Driver's License with a clean driving record.
Track jobs for completion and to prepare detailed reports of work done, time spent and materials used.
Ability to use and track work orders through computerized preventative maintenance program.
Work within small, tight, and confined spaces.
Work during construction conditions that include use of hard hat, gloves, or other protective equipment.
Work on ladders up to 25ft tall.
Complete campus training for specific duties as needed.
Use power and hand tools appropriate to the task.
Knowledge of recycling and hazardous waste streams.
Work safely and efficiently.
Be accessible and responsive via walkie-talkie phone device during work hours.
Be available to be on call, on occasion, for after-hour and weekend emergencies.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
