The Indian Trails Public Library District (ITPLD) has an outstanding opportunity for an individual with excellent leadership abilities to handle a variety of facilities and safety responsibilities within a collaborative and customer centric work culture. The Manager of Facilities and Safety would exemplify the libraries values of service, respect, trust, compassion, innovation and curiosity in order to cultivate the library’s culture and ensure optimal facilities and safety services for the library district.
The position is full-time, 37.5 hours per week. The library has a comprehensive benefits package which includes medical, vision, dental, flexible spending accounts, mandatory IMRF participation, 457(k) retirement plan, as well as vacation and sick time. The library also supports continued learning and professional growth. Starting annualized salary of $58,678 depending on qualifications.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide leadership within the department as well as throughout the library as part of the management team to ensure a customer centric focus and collaborative team environment.
Manage day-to-day operations of the facilities and the upkeep of the building and the grounds.
Responsible for the proper functioning of HVAC systems, electrical, and other facility-related equipment.
Manage the coordination of the closing of the library to the general public at the end of the day or during emergencies.
Handle emergency after-hours situations as needed.
Handle the coordination of work by outside vendors, contractors, utility providers and other external entities related to facilities.
Supervises assigned employees, including hiring, creating staff schedules, delegating responsibilities, evaluating, offering continuing education opportunities, rewarding innovation, recognizing outstanding work and encouraging library-wide communication.
Conducts departmental and library-wide training related to library safety.
Makes recommendations for and assists in establishing procedures related to library safety.
Provides resolution to more complex incidents that violate library policy as needed.
Complete accurate incident reports by gathering information, documenting facts, and submit information in a timely manner.
Respond promptly to all fire, security, or other building alarms to determine cause and take appropriate steps to ensure the safety of public, staff, and library assets (including but not limited to contacting emergency agencies (911), evacuating area/building, and/or crowd control).
Make routine inspections inside and outside the perimeter of the library checking and/or locking doors, looking for safety or security problems and being attentive to potential situations to ensure building safety.
Observe patron behavior and address problems as needed using library policies and guidelines as a reference while also maintaining a positive image of the library.
Ensures effective communication about facilities and safety related topics to appropriate staff as well as conducts facilities and safety team meetings.
Serve as person in-charge (PIC) as required.
Bachelor’s degree preferred or at least 5 years of relevant experience.
Ability to stand and move about the library and for long periods of time, inside and outside.
Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
Ability to read computer screens, manipulate a mouse, type, communicate by telephone and on a walkie talkie.
Ability to work with the public in a positive manner with interruptions and during stressful (emergency) situations.
Complete assigned tasks without direct supervision. Maintain confidentiality.
Must have reliable transportation and be able to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
