Lab Instrumentation Specialist Senior - Engineering and Mineral Resources 11618
The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department within the Statler College invites applications for the position of Lab Instrumentation Specialist Senior. The incumbent will manage the operations of the concrete research laboratory, major units laboratory, the machine and woodworking shops, and all other teaching, computing, and research laboratories in the department.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Train and supervise work-study, hourly, graduate, and undergraduate students in all operations of departmental laboratories.
Describe and demonstrate laboratory procedures in the concrete research laboratory and material testing laboratory.
Manage the operation and maintenance of all teaching laboratories.
Manage, operate, and maintain the machine and woodworking shops and all related equipment and hand power tools for constructing maintaining equipment in the department.
Manufacture test fixtures and test specimens for research and undergraduate laboratory demonstrations.
Provide carpentry work within the department.
Maintain computer equipment within the departments teaching and research labs.
Assume duties of the chemical hygiene officer for the department.
Implement and maintain a chemical hygiene plan and insure all persons working in chemical laboratories are trained for safe work practices according to OSHA standards.
Make purchases for the department that support staff and faculty.
Rearrange facilities within the department for better utilization of space for teaching, research, and offices.
Maintain asset inventory for the department. Receive new equipment to be place into service. Perform physical audits of all assets.
Pay Grade: 17
Eighteen (18) months beyond a high school diploma or GED or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Two (2) years of the following experience:
working in a machine shop or a laboratory in industry or higher education.
computer diagnostics and repairs.
Ability to work with staff, students, or faculty in projects involving a machine shop, laboratory, or similar conditions.
Ability to supervise student workers or a similar group.
Ability to perform repair work in a shop, laboratory, or a similar setting.
Knowledge of laboratory safety.
Working knowledge of welding, carpentry, plumbing, hydraulic systems, basic electronics, electrical wiring and computer diagnostics and repair.
