Renbrook School, an independent day school for children age three to grade eight located in West Hartford, Connecticut, currently seeks a full-time Director of Facilities to join their Buildings and Grounds department.
The Director of Facilities has direct responsibility for the overall appearance, maintenance and cleanliness of the 75-Acre campus. Responsibilities include understanding and oversight of the following: HVAC, electrical, plumbing, hardware, fire and security systems, roofs, grounds and all other major building components. Candidates must have knowledge of Federal and State regulations for OSHA, Asbestos, Water monitoring, Fire, Life Safety Codes, etc. This is a “hands-on” position with day to day supervision of three full-time Buildings and Grounds support staff and coordination and oversight of outsourced custodial and security services. The Director of Facilities works across departments to ensure the security of the campus in terms of environmental controls and security systems. Other responsibilities include developing the annual fiscal plan and budget in conjunction with the Chief Financial Officer, developing and coordinating maintenance, renovation, and capital project schedules, updating and administering the long-range capital improvement plan, and scheduling and overseeing contractors.
This is an Exempt, fully benefited position working regular weekday hours and on-call for emergencies 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
Skills and Abilities
Must be able to supervise, direct and coordinate the work of staff and outside vendors/contractors.
Ability to read and interpret construction and technical drawings, schematics, engineering plans, blueprints and project specifications.
Ability to evaluate bids from outside contractors, as well as write RFP specifications for projects, materials, and equipment.
Ability to understand and make repair and upgrade suggestions for all building systems.
Assist in forecasting future maintenance needs and help develop programs to respond to those needs.
Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely; both verbally and in writing.
High level of professionalism and integrity and a strong work ethic.
Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; ability to collaborate widely with various constituencies throughout the School community including students, faculty, staff, and parents.
Ability to respond quickly to unexpected challenges and shifting priorities.
Aptitude in MS Office programs including Word and Excel.
