The Preventative Maintenance Technician is part of theFacilities department at Vanderbilt University and is a key individualresponsible for Preventive Maintenance onequipment around the University. This position will completepreventive maintenance on equipment maintained by Facilities using a variety ofhand tools and metering devices. Reporting directly to the PreventativeMaintenance Manager. The Preventative Maintenance Technician work with otherstakeholders both within and outside of Facilities to maintain equipmentthrough scheduled preventive maintenance activities.
Plant Operationsprovides facilities support for all construction, renovation, and routinemaintenance of University Central space and facilities; housekeeping servicesfor approximately 5.8 million square feet of academic, administrative,residential, and recreational space; grounds care for 330 acres that are aregistered arboretum; turf care for athletic fields; and utilities for theUniversity Central and the Medical Center.
This position's scheduleis typically Monday through Thursday, 3 AM until 1:45 PM. This position may beassigned to other shifts, as conditions require.
Complete required Preventive Maintenance onequipment including but not limited to the following:
Belt replacement,Sheave/Shiv Replacement, Bearing Lubrication, Filter replacement, Coilcleaning, cleaning of each component within equipment, and detail cleaning ofequipment from top to bottom.
Use various metering devices on both energizedand de-energized equipment (Manometer, Amp Meter, Temperature probe,Tachometer, etc.)
Stand, stoop, crawl, work on elevated surfacesand be in awkward positions for extended periods of time.
Operation of Automated Logic and JohnsonControls automated control systems via computer and/or tablet device.
Communication with stakeholders specific to HVACequipment outages
Use of tablet and/or computer to interact withwork management system.
Use a variety of hand tools.
Understand and interpret building floor plansand construction blue prints.
Maintain flexibility to work overtime and/orweekends as required.
Profile of an IdealCandidate
High School Diploma or GED is required.
Valid driver's license is required.
General knowledge of industrial HVAC systems isrequired.
Ability to work safely around rotating equipmentis required.
Ability to push, pull, lift and carry at least50 pounds is required.
Ability to work in various weather conditions isrequired.
Ability to stand, stoop, crawl, work on elevatedsurfaces and be in awkward positions for extended periods of time is required.
Four (4) years HVAC maintenance experience orformal education is preferred.
Ability to understand and interpret constructiondrawings is preferred.
General computer knowledge is preferred.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office software,especially Outlook, is preferred.
Ability to operate a computer on the internet ispreferred.
Strong communication skills are preferred.
Strong work ethic is preferred.
