Department: FM: BMS - STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS - 064060 Department Description: Building Maintenance Services-On a day-to-day basis, facility maintenance teams operate, repair and maintain the campus's academic and classroom facilities; more than nine million square feet of space on the Davis campus. Our employees are a mix of multi-talented, multi-skilled trades' personnel who are experienced in all areas of the buildings mechanical, electrical, plumbing and structural systems. We respond on an as needed basis to urgent and emergency building problems and also perform routine maintenance repairs.

Job Summary: Under general direction of the Construction Supervisor provides journey level construction and leadership services as a flooring installer for maintenance and new construction projects to include, but not limited to: concrete pads, stairs, ceramic/porcelain tile, sheet vinyl, VCT, epoxy, carpet squares, rubber base, floor prep, and seam welding, with responsibility for budget, schedule and quality of workmanship.
Physical Demands: Lift, stoop, sit or bend for up to eight hours per day.
Recognize running machinery and communicate by phone and email.
Be fitted with respiratory protection.
May, at times, be required to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present.
Lift up to 70 lbs.
Work Environment: This position is subject to completion of a Pre-Placement Medical Exam provided by Employee Health Services at no charge to the applicant.
This position is subject to Medical Surveillance procedures and review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University policy.
A valid CA driver's license is required. Position will participate in the DMV Pull Notice System. A copy of DMV record will be required as a final condition of employment.
May work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present. Specific hazards include but are not limited to: industrial and agricultural chemicals, fuel, solvents, lead, asbestos, infectious materials and wastes, biological hazards and other materials labeled hazardous.
Work irregular shifts, including overtime, weekends, holidays and evenings.
Obtain Asbestos Worker certification within six months.
Employee is personally responsible for following and adhering to Departmental Injury Illness Plan and University Safety procedures and guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications: Must possess a certification of completion from a recognized union apprenticeship program, University apprenticeship program, accredited trade school or have the equivalent amount of experience and training comparable to a journey level craftsperson in all interior flooring.
Experience using self-leveling interior flooring products, techniques and tools.
Experience operating and maintaining a variety of tools and equipment including forklift, air compressor, jackhammers, air spades, earth compactors, chipping guns, dump and lift trucks, etc.
Experience in both demolition and installation of small concrete pads/walkways.
Organizational and time management skills to manage, track, and work on multiple and simultaneous complex tasks, following through on each as new ones are added, and meet multiple deadlines.
Skills to work effectively and sensitively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives to build mutual respect, fairness, and equity.
Customer service and communication skills to provide courteous service in person, on the telephone, and in email; to convey a professional and business -like image. Customer service skills to meet customer/client expectations with an emphasis on quality, quantity and timeliness of work.
Preferred Qualifications: Skill to interpret and apply federal, state and university codes, regulations and policies.
Experience in prep work, resurfacing and installation of all types of epoxy flooring systems.
Experience in demolition, prep work and installation of carpet tile flooring systems.
Experience in removal, prep work and installation, (including seam welding), of vinyl flooring systems.
Experience in the removal, replacement and installation of floor, wall and cove tile.
Experience in demolition, prep work, and installation of both VCT and vinyl plank flooring.
