Clark University’s Facilities Management Department seeks to fill the position of HVAC/R Technician. Reporting to the HVAC/R Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for all phases of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, including all related systems.
The HVAC/R Technician will use Building Management Systems to maintain heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment for malfunction and will perform routine maintenance on all of these systems.
The HVAC/R Technician performs work adhering to Facilities Management departmental standards, the Massachusetts Building Code and best practices, procedures and techniques of the HVAC/R trade.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
General HVAC and facility maintenance
Respond to emergencies and request for work calls via radio; address work orders in a timely and professional manner.
Provide skilled work at all levels of installation, alteration, maintenance and repair for HVAC/R systems including BMS (Building Management Systems) and EMS (Energy Management Systems) and associated equipment.
Participate in the repair of low voltage electronic, mechanical, and pneumatic devices and systems used to control HVAC/R equipment and building systems in commercial and residential operations.
Perform skilled HVAC work in commercial buildings, residence halls, classrooms, laboratories and multi-family housing units across the Clark campus.
Supervise the work of HVAC/R Apprentices
Maintain facilities up to Facilities Management standards; provide safe and comfortable learning, living and working spaces.
Identify existing maintenance issues and upgrade opportunities.
As a member of cross functional team, play an important role in major University events, including Commencement, Reunion and Open Houses On a rotational basis; assist with snow removal during normal business hours.
Serves as a designated essential employee, required to report to work in the event of emergencies, unforeseen closures, and inclement weather-related closures; prepare buildings for winter break.
Summer Dorm Project
Perform various HVAC/R, preventative maintenance and repairs tasks to all residential units during summer months
Assist with student move-in, as necessary.
Perform various HVAC/R and facility related tasks on capital projects, as assigned.
Other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma/GED and at least 3 years’ experience in HVC/R trade.
Must possess and maintain a Massachusetts Refrigeration Technician’s License and an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 608 certification and have at least 3 years’ experience in the repair, replacement, and the operation of variable frequency drives (VFDs), steam heating, hydronic, air distribution, gas boiler heating and water treatment systems.
Knowledge of applicable building codes, regulations and best practices for worker safety/OSHA; experience in facilities and construction, ability to prepare and work from sketches and construction documents, knowledge of building envelopes & systems; proven ability to follow oral and written instructions and thorough knowledge of the common practices, tools, terminology and safety precautions of the HVAC/R trade
Preferred requirements include Massachusetts Oil Burner License (strongly preferred) and a certificate from a recognized trade school in a related field
Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License, required.
Must have ability to lift 50lbs, bend, stoop and twist on a daily basis; able to stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time; able to climb stairs and ladders
Proficient in computer applications, such as Word, Excel, CMMS, Email (Outlook) and common web based applications.
This position is considered essential personnel and will be expected to report to work during emergency closings and may be required to work occasional evenings, weekends or holidays to respond to University events, facility related incidents or urgent needs
Must be able to maintain a positive, professional relationship with all members of the Clark Community.
