The General Maintenance Worker is a skilled position that performs routine maintenance and repairs on the interior and exterior of buildings. Responsibilities include refuse and recycling along with elements of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, grounds, and painting as well as other specialized skills. This position may operate machinery and is routinely involved in all duties that require preventive maintenance. Reports to the Operations Manager and/or Director of Facilities.
Recycling and trash to be picked up daily and as needed.
Maintenance to include but not limited to general plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting as needed.
Visually inspect pumps, air handlers and fans for proper operation.
Inspect roof, drains, gutters, and downspouts; clear debris as needed.
Check door locks and lock mechanisms; clean and repair as needed.
Paint (or stain) walls, ceilings, doors and windows; uses spackle, putty, wood filler, sealers, finishes and other materials as needed to repair and restore various surfaces.
Perform masonry repairs as needed.
Grounds maintenance to include mowing, weed wacking, leaf removal, etc.
Responsible for snow removal as required, using all means necessary such as shovels, plows, etc.
Work alongside and communicate with the physical plant and university staff in a positive manner to support the smooth operation of the university equipment and systems.
Integrate the core values of respect, compassion, integrity, justice and service in all aspects of interaction.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager/Director of Facilities.
Event set up / break down and general support.
High School diploma or equivalent.
Two to three years experience as a maintenance worker; some experience in grounds keeping preferred.
Knowledge of general maintenance procedures and universal precautions regarding safety, fire, and OSHA.
Ability to use maintenance equipment, such as pressure washer, power tools, hand tools, rider/sweeper, and grounds keeping tools.
Good communication, organization and interpersonal skills.
Ability to train other employees in their group.
Ability to work independently as well as part of the maintenance team.
Physical demands include: Requires lifting 100 pounds maximum, with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects up to 50 pounds.
