The Environmental Division is a 24-hour, 7 day per week operation, and includes two satellite locations. Assigned work schedule may change and may be for any shift, any location and any day of the week.
NOTICE OF WRITTEN EXAM
Written Test Date: July 17, 2019
A civil service examination will be conducted in accordance with the Civil Service Rules of the City of Las Vegas.
A written examination, weighted 100%, will be used to place candidates on the eligible list. The eligible list will remain in effect for a period of 6 months from the date of certification and may be extended for a period of up to 2 years.
SELECTION PROCESS Final candidate selection will include list placement and may include hiring interview (if applicable). "Any individual offered employment will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test, complete background check, and may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform the physical requirements of the job." Some positions may require preliminary background checks.
Diagnoses, tests, repairs, modifies, disassembles, rebuilds, installs and troubleshoots a variety of wastewater treatment plant equipment, including: industrial engines, blowers, augers, pipes and centrifuges; grit removal equipment; gear drives; primary and secondary sedimentation basins; pumps and pump room equipment; lift stations; screw conveyors; gates; valves; heat exchangers and boiler systems; rack assemblies; check valves, mixers, chlorination and dechlorination equipment; trickling filters; sludge and scum pumping equipment; anaerobic sludge digestion equipment; sludge and scum pumping equipment; sludge dewatering equipment; screening equipment; hydraulic systems and other mechanical systems at the plant.
Performs routine preventive and predictive maintenance, including inspecting, cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting, keeping equipment in optimal working condition to minimize unexpected problems and downtime.
Sets up and operates drill press, grinder and other metalworking tools necessary to repair parts.
Uses monitoring tools, including laser belt, shaft alignment tools and oil analysis equipment.
Communicates problems and observances to management and staff on other shifts or working in other units, when appropriate.
Completes required documentation and prepares reports.
Performs minor pipe fitting and plumbing tasks.
Follows established safety practices and uses appropriate safety equipment and procedures at all times.
Identifies needed parts and initiates purchase orders; uses parts books as necessary.
Cleans shop areas, grounds, vehicles and maintenance equipment.
Assists with rough carpentry and minor electrical work.
Maintains and secures tools.
Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
Two years of mechanical maintenance work involving service, repair, troubleshooting and installation of complex motors, pumps and other related equipment in an industrial, manufacturing or process environment.
Equivalent to graduation from high school.
Licenses and Certifications:
Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license on the date of application, and maintenance thereafter.
