Job Description Summary
Summary: Responsible for assisting with the maintenance of all Athletic Facilities and structures, associated with heating, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning and related chillers, fans, pumps, motors, ducting, heat exchangers, electrical and pneumatic control systems. Assists with any necessary preparations of athletic facilities for practices and sports events.
Assists with the coordination and supervision of the WF Athletic maintenance to include total maintenance, improvement and game day preparation for the following areas: Basketball Arena, and if needed, Football Stadium, Baseball Stadium, Field Hockey Facility, Soccer Facility, Tennis Stadium, Golf Facility, Track Facility and all other Athletic Facilities.
Ability to communicate with various constituents; general public; students; coaches; administrators.
Outstanding interpersonal and community relations skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively within a diverse community.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with clients, tenants, Athletic Department members, entertainment industry, city officials, community and civic organizations to encourage continual and regular use of the basketball arena.
Assists with the response to and prioritizes a multitude of requests from coaches and administration regarding athletic building maintenance.
Consults with Director of Athletic Facilities to review objectives, goals, and plans for athletic facilities.
Assists with the development of annual written plan for athletic facility maintenance as well as need for new equipment. Estimates materials, time and labor costs for routine maintenance.
Assists in establishing short and long term plans for facility improvements.
Assists in the preparation and administration of the annual budget; prepares annual reports as needed.
Assists in the insurance of compliance with all applicable safety regulations, building codes and safety requirements. Helps to ensure the completion of all maintenance and repair jobs in accordance with established standards.
Meets with vendors; directs purchasing for facility maintenance products and equipment. Searches for competitive prices on quality products to minimize costs and expenditures.
Serves as department's liaison with outside contractors to secure and transmit information concerning cost, timing and completion of facility related projects. Prepares and maintains written records of work performed and completed.
Assists with serving as department's liaison with the Facilities and Campus Services to coordinate appropriate maintenance and repair projects as well as short and long term objectives.
Assists in identifying and documenting a preventative maintenance program of scheduled inspection and repair of electrical, mechanical and other systems, equipment and facilities to ensure proper operation and to correct malfunctions before major breakdowns develop.
Assists in establishing building maintenance inspections on a periodic and reoccurring basis.
Inspects athletic facilities on a regular basis to identify repair and maintenance needs. Report issues to ensure the maintenance of facilities is in a quality condition.
Assists in coordinating the planning and completion of athletic facility work orders (7i), to include assigning duties, defining procedures and inspecting work.
Assists in preparing reports relevant to 7i as needed.
Supervises and trains maintenance crew on proper use of equipment, maintenance and repair.
Participates in continuing education opportunities such as seminars, workshops, correspondence courses and trade shows.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
High school graduate. Certified Electrician with two years experience, plus two years management experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to obtain necessary licenses and permits.
General knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, painting repairs and installation.
General knowledge of all ACC and NCAA competition guidelines related to athletic facilities.
General knowledge of ACC and NCAA policies and regulations as they pertain to tournament operations, management, and activities.
Ability to read, understand, perform and enforce all safety policies and procedures in accordance with state, federal, local, university and department established guidelines.
Working knowledge of applicable agency standards and of appropriate building and construction code regulations.
Ability to read and interpret plans diagrams, construction documents and specifications.
Ability to plan, coordinate, schedule, and make decisions regarding athletic facilities.
Ability to develop and support preventative maintenance plans.
Ability to establish working relationships with coaches and other university personnel.
Proficiency in computer use and related software and other standard office equipment.
Skill in verbal and written communication; strong interpersonal skills.
Self-directed, innovative and a strong problem solver in setting priorities and meeting goals.
Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures
Ability to work positively with University employees, fellow staff members, and coaches.
Ability to train new or less experienced athletic maintenance personnel.
Ability to work scheduled hours including nights and weekends as needed to satisfy athletic facility needs for athletic contests and special events.
Ability to meet requirements of the University's automobile insurance.
