The New Community School is currently hiring a Facilities Assistant.
Job Description: This position will:
perform unskilled work in the care, cleaning and maintenance of school buildings and related work as required.
help to maintain a clean and safe school environment by performing necessary grounds maintenance to include policing the school grounds for trash, trimming brushes/shrubbery, edging sidewalks/curbs, cleaning out and weeding flower beds, and putting down mulch. Cleaning building interiors, dusting assigned areas and washing windows and doors will be performed as needed.
move, transport, deliver, and manage school equipment, supplies, books and furniture.
assist with setting up and tearing down from events across campus, including covering the gym floor, setting up chairs, arranging tables, and other items as needed.
assist with maintaining the School buses, to include daily and weekly inspections, and cleaning as necessary.
help to clear snow or other debris from campus (sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fields) as needed to ensure safe operation of the school, as needed.
Work is performed under regular supervision. This is light to medium work requiring the exertion of up to 50-75 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Work requires constant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions. This position may be subjected to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, vibration, atmospheric conditions, oils, and wearing a respirator. This position may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
Requirements: The ideal candidate will possess:
High School diploma, or equivalent.
written and oral communications skills.
ability to use a computer. An appropriate candidate will be able to communicate by email and texts in a timely manner, as well as use a computer to update the work order system.
knowledge of the basic operation of various parts of heating and air-conditioning equipment, plumbing, and/or electrical systems is preferred.
ability to observe and report needs for maintenance and supplies and the ability to carry out simple written and oral instructions.
ability to work well individually and in a cooperative manner with administrators, faculty, staff, students and the general public.
agility and dexterity to perform all required tasks and the ability to work out doors in different temperatures.
ability to pass required background checks and driving record checks.
hearing acuity sufficient to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
visual acuity sufficient for depth perception, color perception, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operation of machines, and observing general surroundings and activities.
Experience in building maintenance and/or custodial work is preferred.
Schedule to be determined, but generally 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, with some evening and weekend work required.
This position will be considered essential personnel and may include work on weekends or mandatory overtime.
