Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Facility Maintenance Technician helps to support the educational mission of Appalachian State University by providing an effective and efficient facilities maintenance and management program for all buildings, structures and real property assets associated with the University.
Duties and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:
Perform routine inspections and intermediate maintenance on HVAC, mechanical and electrical systems.
Follow Preventive Maintenance Department monthly schedule of tasks including, but not limited to, drive belt inspection and replacement, crankcase and gearbox fluid level check and change, lubrication of pump, motor and fan bearings, general housekeeping in mechanical spaces, air handling equipment filter inspection and replacement, maintain filter inventory records for monthly order, verify correct filter sizes and efficiency used, clean washable filters, clean heating, cooling, evaporator, and condenser coils as needed.
Evaluation of equipment and system operation.
Maintain accurate equipment records and assist other employees and departments, as directed.
Experience with synchronized belt drives.
Experience with thermal imaging equipment.
Experience with vibration analysis.
Experience with preventive maintenance programs.
Valid driver's license and ability to drive ASU and/or State vehicle(s) as needed.
Experience in a school, university or institutional work environment, NFPA70E, Lockout-Tagout, and/or general safety training.
