The role of the Utility Mechanic is to work in conjunction with the Heat Plant Operators and the HVAC Technicians to maintain and repair all equipment and devices relating to heating, air conditioning and ventilation throughout the College campus and College housing. This is primarily a preventative and predictive maintenance role working with large and small pieces of stationary equipment according to an established schedule of machine maintenance and repair. This position requires working on equipment where 480v three phase power is commonplace, high temperature piping is present and medium pressure steam (150 psi) is present. Safe work practices are paramount in this environment. This position is a Non-Exempt 05.
Maintaining air handling equipment by replacing belts and filters, cleaning coils, taking amp readings on the motors and greasing bearings.
Maintaining, taking temperature readings and rebuilding steam traps, PRV’s and related steam equipment.
Maintaining and rebuilding pumps, motors and compressors.
Servicing and fueling Generators.
Repairing or replacing pipe, gaskets, filters and other equipment related to HVAC functions.
Performs other assignments as directed by the HVAC Lead or Maintenance Manager.
Monitoring and ordering supplies to support the Preventative Maintenance schedule.
Assisting in the repair and replacement of large equipment.
Valid Driver’s license
Minimum of a High School or GED diploma; Trade School a plus
Minimum of two years experience in a work environment where mechanical skills were utilized; HVAC or boiler plant experience a plus.
Demonstrate some level of experience in automotive or engine repair.
