Within EH&S, the Health and Safety unit provides specialized services in all areas of environmental compliance and protection.

Job Summary: Under the general supervision of the EH&S Manager supports the industrial hygiene program. This position supports EH&S goals of fostering communication and coordination within the department by working cooperatively with other EH&S staff to facilitate the delivery of service to the campus community, while supporting the Campus Principles of Community.
Physical Demands: Wear a respirator and other protective equipment.
Lift and move equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
Climb ladders up to 10 feet or more in height.
Bend, walk and stoop in confined spaces.
Work Environment: Must possess Valid California Driver's License. This position may at times require the employee to work with or be in an area where hazardous or radioactive materials and/or infectious diseases are present. Medical monitoring and surveillance may be required. Must be able to work occasional overtime. Work occasional evenings/nights. Work occasional weekends and holidays

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, Environmental Toxicology, Biological Sciences, Microbiology, Physics, Public Health, or similar discipline or equivalent combination of education and work experience in related field.
Skill to read and interpret Cal/OSHA regulations.
Experience conducting air sampling and personal exposure monitoring evaluations, including use of appropriate monitoring equipment.
Knowledge of the fundamental industrial hygiene, environmental monitoring and sampling methods.
Communication (oral, written, presentation, documentation) and interpersonal skills to interact with customers, convey technical information in lay terms, prepare reports of data results and findings, and correspondence.
Experience using computer and software applications including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, e-mail and smart phones.
Preferred Qualifications: Working towards Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification preferred.
Knowledge of Uniform Plumbing and Building Codes, National Electric Code and California Health and Safety Code.
Skill to read and interpret drawings, specifications, technical journals and campus standards.
