Assistant Vice President for Facilities & Planning

Position Summary: The Assistant Vice President for Facilities and Planning reports to the Vice President for Finance & Administration and has direct responsibility for the Departments of Facilities Services, Facilities Planning and Construction, and Environmental Health and Safety. The Assistant Vice President is one of the four members of the Vice President's Senior Staff and represents the Vice President with the State University Construction Fund and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York. The Assistant Vice President provides strong leadership, organizational and team-building skills and support to subordinates. In addition, they are responsible for facilities operations, building maintenance, motor pool fleet management, capital planning and capital improvements, heating and cooling planning, scheduling, budgeting, personnel management, organizational development, customer relations, preventative maintenance, operational efficiency, data collection and analysis, employee morale and development and adherence to applicable State and Federal regulations including, in particular, those relating to occupational safety, environmental conservation, building codes, and engineering standards. The Assistant Vice President shall ensure the proper management and supervision of the departments under jurisdiction of the office and shall ensure close cooperation with all areas of the campus community. The Assistant Vice President has financial responsibility for approximately $10 million in operating funds and oversight of a capital budget of over $60 million. The Assistant Vice President is charged with providing strategic focus, dynamic, creative leadership and direction for the Facilities Services and Planning functions at SUNY Geneseo. They play a leading role in capital and facilities policy decision for the campus. The Assistant Vice President must be familiar with strategic planning, budgetary formulation and execution and be committed to customer service and continuous quality improvement. They must apply strong leadership and organizational skills and foster teamwork and good morale among the employees. The Assistant Vice President has the authority to manage the office in accordance with College policies and plans and to supervise and evaluate personnel; to prioritize work; to expend funds within approved budgets; to represent the College to outside constituents, as appropriate to the College and office mission; and to delegate responsibilities to area managers and supervisors and to hold them accountable. They have the authority to represent the College in relationships with SUNY System Administration, the State University Construction Fund and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York, and to respond to directives and requests for data. They are charged with the ongoing assessment and improvements to departmental policies and procedures and the organization and alignment of all functions in Facilities Services. They are responsible for ensuring that all operations meet the Service Level Agreements for their areas, that the Management and Workplace Protocols are disseminated and enforced, and that these operations meet the facilities and service needs of the College Community. They may be assigned to special projects or to serve on Divisional and College-wide committees as required. Occasional weekend and evening work required.
Required Qualifications A Bachelors degree and a work history of demonstrated increasing responsibilities in a mid to senior level role in facilities management OR an associates degree and demonstrated successful experience in a senior level role in facilities management. Must be knowledgeable in the following areas: central plant operations, building controls and HVAC systems, energy management/conservation measures and techniques, general building maintenance, custodial & grounds, regulatory compliance related to environmental health and safety. Previous responsibility overseeing operational and capital budgets of significant size. Demonstrated experience with planning, successfully managing a large workforce and capital construction projects. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies. Excellent verbal and written skills.
Preferred Qualifications Masters degree Experience with SUNY, State University Construction Fund and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York. Experience at a college, university, not-for-profit or public institution. Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems.
