Eastern Kentucky University Division of Natural Areas has an open position for Assistant Manager of Lilley Cornett Woods Appalachian Ecological Research Station. The successful applicant will support the Manager in protection, management, and educational activities relevant to the old-growth forest and natural resources of Lilley Cornett Woods. The area is used for environmental, natural resource, and other field-based education as well as scholarship and scientific research by a variety of faculty, students, classes, community groups, and organizations. The job is unique to the University because of its location and value of the resource. The area is considered a prime area for scientific research due to its protected status and biodiversity.

The position requires knowledge or ability to learn about 1.educational programs, guided tours, and research support for individual visitors and groups related to Lilley Cornett Woods, old-growth forests, and Appalachia in general; 2.basic resource management including security of the site, wildlife habitat management, and trail maintenance; 3.maintaining grounds around facilities, including lawncare using tractor, mower, string trimmer, etc.; 4.materials and skills used in maintenance, construction, and repair, including minor equipment and vehicle repair, minor carpentry, plumbing, and electrical; and 5.first aid, scientific procedures, map reading skills, tree identification, and information technology
One year of related work experience is required.
