The Custodial Technician for the Floor Care Team role is assigned duties related to assisting the floor cleaning crew such as unlocking and locking areas to which the floor crew needs access to perform work, moving furniture or stacking chairs to allow an open path for the floor crew to work within, collaborating on the most efficient way to complete the assigned project, spot cleaning, buffing floors, etc. Applicant must be able to demonstrate attention to detail as, on the job, no room may remain unlocked after work is performed. This position requires someone who can work well within a small, 3-person crew and remain focused on the duties at hand.
Plant Operations provides facilities support for all construction, renovation, and routine maintenance of University Central space and facilities; housekeeping services for approximately 5.8 million square feet of academic, administrative, residential, and recreational space; grounds care for 330 acres that are a registered arboretum; turf care for athletic fields; and utilities for the University Central and the Medical Center. This position will report to the Director of Operations for the Facilities Department.
Work Schedule is Sunday - Thursday, 3rd Shift. Pay is $13.40/hr plus shift differential.
Duties and Responsibilities
Perform project and relief custodial duties at other buildings
Perform special assignments independently
Backfill absent staff/perform their assigned work routine
Spot/wet mop floors
Sweep/dust mop/vacuum floors
Operate upright and backpack vacuum
Spot clean carpeted surfaces
Wipe/clean both horizontal and vertical surfaces
Collect and transport trash/waste to central location
Collect recycling (in "assist buildings") and transport to central location in building
Clean appliances (when requested)
Clean plumbing fixtures
Clean & service waterless urinals
Dispense cleaning chemicals from J-fill station
Move and arrange furniture
Maintain individual custodial closet supplies inventory and request supplies and equipment as needed
Identify building minor maintenance problems and annotate on the Building Routine Inspection form
Notify supervisor when maintenance repairs are needed
Turn on and off lights, and assigned equipment
Unlock/lock assigned spaces
Complete labor data entry sheet as required
Respond to custodial emergency calls in assigned buildings
Operate walk behind equipment used for routine floor cleaning
Operate and perform operator maintenance level to vehicle, if one assigned for daily duties

Previous experience refinishing floors and using floor care equipment is necessary.
Valid TN driver's license is necessary.
Previous housekeeping experience is necessary.
High School diploma or GED is preferred.
