Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Physical Plant Manager, perform repairs, and maintenance on buildings, grounds and facilities within the Kearney Research and Extension Center (KREC). Perform extensive remodeling and renovation projects, participate in utility system improvements and respond to after-hours emergency alarms regarding out-of-parameter equipment conditions, take corrective actions and notify designate personnel.
This position will promote, in all ways consistent with other responsibilities of the position, the affirmative action goals established by the Division.

| Possess or obtain within six months of employment a Forklift Operators Certificate. Participate in DMV Pull Notice System.
Employment is contingent upon successfully clearing the FBI/DOJ background check both from the Department of Justice and the FBI, prior to the first day of UC Employment.
Must possess valid California Driver's License to drive a County or University vehicle. Ability and means to travel on a flexible schedule as needed, proof of liability and property damage insurance on vehicle used is required.

Duties
Perform plumbing & pipefitting, lay-out, cut, fabricate, bend, shape, thread, solder/glue to join, repair, fabricate pipe systems. Repair, install maintain specialized systems, equipment & components including utilities (water, gas, sewer, vacuum). Install new or modify existing electrical systems. Install electrical conduit, electrical fixtures, conduit fittings, pull & terminate wiring for lighting, power circuits. Test, troubleshoot, service, maintain, repair electrical systems, wiring equipment. Perform general construction,, maintenance carpentry, paint interiors/exteriors, sand & texture, frame & finish carpentry, install doors & door hardware, windows, flashing, roofing repairs, gutter repairs. Perform preventive maintenance on equipment. Monitor, maintain, repair greenhouse systems and equipment: Electronic environmental control systems. Inspect & identify equipment, utility, landscape or building problems, troubleshoot, analyze to determine cause, make repairs. Propose repair & construction projects. Select, order material & parts. Assist with installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, calibration, modification and repair of lab & farm operations research support equipment. provide maintenance, repair & emergency after-hours response to fire & environment control system alarms. Work from blueprints, drawings & verbal instructions. Plan, layout & create working sketches, estimate costs, requisition parts, supplies & equipment. Prepare project or repair estimates for labor, materials, provide input and recommendations for purchases, repairs and replacement of equipment. Assist with moving office furniture, conference room setups, and other related tasks.
Job Requirements Experience operating, installing, maintaining and repairing center buildings, building systems, utilities and equipment. Skills in building trades (plumbing, electrical, carpentry and painting: sufficient to plan projects, construction, repairs, remodeling or modifications to building structures and building utility systems). Required
Skills to use common trade hand and power tools and voltage and amperage testers. Skills to use common landscape equipment and tools. Required
Knowledge of pesticide and herbicides used in and around building grounds, and landscaping Required
Organizational skills to complete work assignments, meet deadlines and maintain a high degree of productivity and accuracy. Required
Communication skills to interact with research faculty, staff and general public in an effective, enthusiastic manner, presenting positive atmosphere to strengthen and enhance working relationships. Required
Knowledge to work from drawings, models, plans, specifications, or verbal instructions; estimate costs and select necessary materials. Knowledge and understanding of related building trades terminology, symbols and concepts. Preferred
Skills to organize, archive, store, and retrieve paper or electronic records and resource materials. Preferred
Skills to understand, interpret, and apply building codes, safety regulations, university policies, procedures and industry practices. Knowledge of project development and to inspect vendor and contractor work. Preferred
Knowledge of safe working practices. Skills to provide training to others. Preferred
