The Facilities Manager is a part of the Vanderbilt University School of Engineering. The position will oversee facilities for Olin Hall and Vanderbilt School of Engineering (VUSE) buildings on 16th & 17th Avenue South. While the position supports the activities of all of the departments within VUSE as they pertain to the facilities in which they operate, specific emphasis is given to Mechanical Engineering and Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Departments.
This position will manage and coordinate the operation and administrative functions for specific facilities within VUSE. It will develop financial and statistical models for cost containment and space assessment. Monitor facility budget and coordinate intra-departmental facility services. This position will provide backup to other facilities areas within the VUSE.

The VUSE facilities team manages the buildings and areas in which the school resides. The majority of the buildings are:

Multiscale Modeling and Simulation
Laboratory for Systems Integrity and Reliability
Engineering and Science Building
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and implement facility and space management programs, financial and statistical models and forecast for operational and strategic space planning
Manage daily operational requirements for specific facilities; coordinate data collection with departments on use, availability and assignment
Plan, develop, and prepare detailed technical documents for facility and space related projects
Recommend, implement, and monitor policy and procedures for space management ensure facility use is in compliance with established guidelines; analyze and prepare cost-sharing data, utility consumption data, space utilization information, and revenue and expenditure ratios for budget control and planning
Monitor and coordinate with appropriate departments all renovations and construction; environmental services; preventive and periodic maintenance; building security; plan operations and other services
Performs walk-throughs of laboratories to ensure equipment is properly positioned with respect to safety standards
Maintain documentation regarding capital equipment (Capital Assets)
Partnering with VU facilities and designated lab personnel to establish a sustainable process in reacting to and informing occupants when unexpected situations occur such as flooding, etc.
Work with direct report to plan for deferred maintenance items
Responsible for general supervision of housekeeping and plant operations
Assist Department Chairs/Directors with space issues
Assist faculty, staff, and students with building security and emergency procedures
Collaborate with Vanderbilt Environment Health and Safety to address safety and compliance for laboratories, hazardous waste management, etc., and emergency response
Basic knowledge of building systems to include HVAC, plumbing, electrical and system controls.
Demonstrated communication skills, both written and oral, to include the ability to communicate highly technical issues to researchers, faculty, students, administrative and facilities staff on a regular and timely basis
Other tasks as assigned
This position requires 24 hour 7 day a week access/response
Ensure laboratories and machine shop areas are in compliance with department and school safety policy and procedures
Facilitate training and safety protocols for these areas
Facilitate equipment maintenance, installations, and repairs
Possess basic knowledge of equipment in teaching laboratories of Mechanical Engineering and Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Departments and machine shops to act as backup to the primary laboratory manager/machine shop manager
Profile of an Ideal Candidate
Bachelors Degree and 3 years of experience or the equivalent is necessary
First Aid/CPR/EAD certification preferred
At least three years' experience necessary
Experience in running and maintaining mechanical machinery and instrumentation
Knowledge and capability in maintaining electrical equipment and conducting diagnostics
High communication skills necessary with the ability to interact with faculty, staff, and student
Strong problem solving skills necessary
Strong computer skills necessary (MS Word, Excel, Access)
Experience training on machinery and instruments
Lab Safety Training strongly preferred
Emergency Preparedness Training preferred
Fire and Life Safety Training preferred
