Essential Job Duties:
The primary purpose of this position is to provide engineering technical support to the design, construction, and operations of facilities on campus. The position utilizes engineering knowledge of design, construction, and operational methods to make decisions regarding approaches to resolving complex building system renovations and ensure efficient operations. The position will lead the Facilities Division Electrical Safety Task Force and lead efforts to ensure campus facilities are in compliance with OSHA and NFPA requirements for incident energy analysis and labeling of electrical panels on campus. The position reviews designs of capital projects and inspects construction to ensure compliance with campus guidelines and specifications. The position also manages complex building system repair projects in research intensive facilities on campus.
Must be able to communicate effectively verbally with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters.
Bachelor’s Degree in the Engineering discipline related to the area of assignment; or and equivalent combination of training and experience.
Some positions may require licensure by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Knowledge of state building code, state construction procedures for capital improvement and informal projects, good practical knowledge of several trades including piping, heating and air conditioning. Ability to meet and work with all kinds of people, from deans and directors to consultants, mechanics and laborers. Proficiency in designing, analyzing and troubleshooting all types of mechanical and plumbing systems, including knowledge of instruments and test equipment used in testing and adjusting systems.
At least 2 years work experience in an environment developing competence in some of the below areas. Some supervisory experience is preferable. BSME Degree from an ABET accredited program and two years related experience.

Valid Driver’s License required.
NC Driver’s License within 60 days of hire.
