The Physical Plant Supervisor directs and supervises a team of Facility Equipment and HVAC Mechanics in repairing, maintaining, monitoring, scheduling and performing preventive maintenance on a variety of mechanical equipment. Including but not limited to warm air, chilled water, steam or hot water systems. Coordinates and supervises the activities related to routine and emergency building maintenance and environmental systems in a 24/7 operation. Manages and coordinates activities for service and maintenance response with service responders to ensure timely delivery and completion of service work throughout the University buildings and other related areas. Provides customer interface, response services, dispatch services, work order input and maintenance. Prepares and presents to higher level authorities reports on operations, maintenance problems, system performance and associated construction projects. Must be available to respond to emergencies and determine on call coverage for three shifts, seven days a week. Monitors the quality of a variety of maintenance and repair work and directs and evaluates the performance of maintenance staff through periodic inspections and direct supervision. Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes and work cooperatively and jointly with other supervisors and mechanics to provide quality customer service. Oversee the performance of outside contractors for quality and workmanship, billing and timeliness of work.
Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering and certification as a plant engineer or registered engineer. Experience in managing complex critical research/laboratory facilities or similar.
