The Maintenance Worker 1, Residential Life Moving collects refuse and recycling from interior and exterior campus spaces as well as campus curbside locations for proper disposal. This position also removes and delivers appliances, mattresses, Residential Life Building furniture and set up beds as requested. This position also performs necessary set-ups for University programming and events and performs inter-office moves.
Collects refuse and recycling from interior and exterior campus spaces and at curbside locations.
Performs set-ups for University-sponsored events including, but not limited to: Athletic Events, Convocations and Commencement Ceremonies, Open Houses, Homecoming, Board of Trustees Meetings, Red Hawk Days, and other special events as needed.
Performs inter-offices. Moves furniture and equipment as per the Work Order System.
Removes and discard broken appliances, mattresses, broken furniture and equipment as directed.
Delivers new appliances, mattresses, furniture and equipment as directed.
Bunks and de-bunks beds in the Residential Life Buildings as directed by the Work Order System.
Provides additional classroom tables and chairs in the Residential Buildings as needed.
Responds to emergencies in a timely and professional manner. Treats all customers with patience and respect.
Operates motor vehicles such as a box truck, pickup truck and a fork lift.
Operates moving equipment such a dolly and a hand truck.
This position is an Essential Employee position. Employee is required to work during all emergencies including but not limited to New Jersey State of Emergencies.
This position will assist with snow removal on campus.
Attends and participates in Department mandated trainings and meetings.
Follows all safety procedures described in training sessions, including use of personal protection equipment.
Prepares simple reports.
Shows respect for all employees and University property and equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED: One (1) year of experience in general maintenance and repair work involving a variety of carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, masonry, and/or related tasks, or in the maintenance of forests and/or parks. A valid current driverâ™s license. Must be able to work all shifts, overtime and holidays as assigned. Must have the ability to work cooperatively with a diverse population. Must have the ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position. This is an Essential Employee position.
PREFERRED: Professional experience as a mover in a large facility or campus environment A valid fork lift operator certificate or be able to obtain a certificate within 4 months of employment. A high school diploma or equivalency Ability to lift up and move 75 pounds on regular basis.
*This position is designated as essential. The designation of essential requires employees at these 24/7 facilities to be present due to inclement weather situations.
O10: $33,111.29-$46,138.52 *Note: Salaries for internal candidates are determined by the New Jersey Civil Service Commissionâ™s formula. Salaries for external candidates are determined up to step four $37,453.70.
