Employment Type: Permanent Staff (SHRA) Vacancy ID: P011133 Salary Range: $42,013 - $56,391 Position Summary/Description: This position is being recruited at the State banded role/competency of a Facility Maintenance Technician – Mechanical Trades/Journey with a working title of HVAC Mechanic. The primary purpose of this position is to operate, perform preventive/predictive/condition-based maintenance, and repair building mechanical and associated electrical systems. Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Essential Skills: Candidates must have skills in preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and rebuilding for air handlers, exhaust fans (general and fume hood), hot water pumps, air compressors, fan coil units, vacuum pumps, motor controls and electrical safety devices. This position requires abilities to diagnose complex system-wide issues affecting critical research, health care, teaching, and public service operations. Candidates must safely, for example, replace filters, clean coils and air handlers (including mold), modify fan speeds, replace belts and bearings, align couplings, and diagnose motor and starter problems with minimal down time. Knowledge of air conditioning, refrigeration, steam, chilled water, lubricants, compressed air, vacuum systems, single and three phase electrical power, air handling and distribution, fluid flow, heat transfer, sound and vibration, thermal comfort, indoor environmental health, air contaminants and odors, energy use is required. Computer skills are required to operate the Computerized Maintenance Management System. This position requires the ability to serve as a mandatory employee and report to work in support of mandatory University operations, even when adverse weather or other emergency conditions require the University to close. This position may be required to work in active BSL3 labs. This requires a baseline blood draw, a physical, and vaccines, as well as annual medical certification, respirator fit testing, and specific training. Entry into such labs requires escort from Environment, Health, & Safety, respirator use, safety attire, and possibly shower in/out. This position is required to work in healthcare facilities, with requirements including vaccines, tuberculosis testing, and overall medical certification. This position is required to periodically serve on call duty including nights, weekends, and holidays. Preferred : Diploma in industrial or HVAC technical trades; ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical diagrams; minimum of 3 years of experience in a commercial or industrial environment performing mechanical and HVAC equipment maintenance and repair (air handlers, exhaust fans, air compressors, etc.).
