Housing and Residence Life is seeking a Grounds Technician. This position is a minor maintenance team member responsible for the daily maintenance of Housing complexes trash and grounds.
Duties include but not limited to: utilize a maintenance management software system to assess and prioritize work load; maintain proper tracking of parts used; track and report work completed in addition to assigned work orders; participate in the preparation, development, and care of housing grounds and landscapes, cleaning driveways, walkways, landings, stairwells, and parking areas; participate in the planting and maintenance of flower bedding areas, trees, lawns, and landscaping projects for Campus Housings; participate in the removal of trash around Housing perimeters and designated trash can areas, by picking up cans and debris along sidewalks, courtyards, grassy areas; contain, maintain, remove, and empty trash rooms and trash chutes; participate in the loading and moving of furniture and appliances; participate in an emergency on call rotation with Maintenance staff requiring seven-day obligations for after hours and Holidays; prioritize dynamic summer work load efficiently as part of a team to assess and repair apartments in coordination with summer Housing staff and planned construction projects; represent the department to our students, staff, and visitors in accordance with current policies and best practices to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for everyone; inspect assigned buildings daily to ensure safe and functional environment for students, staff, and visitors; report any building needs to supervisor in a timely manner for prioritization and entry into the Work Order system; perform preventative maintenance tasks for building systems including but not limited to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, roofing, gutters and scuppers, doors, windows, hardware, and cleaning; properly handle and dispose of recycling materials; supervise and coordinate Summer Maintenance Staff when assigned; and other duties and tasks as needed.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
General knowledge in life safety systems
Basic skills in lawn care and trash removal
Basic knowledge of commercial maintenance
Ability to adapt to changing priorities, dynamic work load, andmultiple levels of supervision as necessary for a healthy work environment
