The Utilities Department of Facilities Planning and Management at Iowa State University is seeking candidates for an Engineering Technician 1. This position serves as the primary resource for document management for the utility system distribution maps for the main campus and farms, one-line diagrams for electrical and mechanical systems, Information Technology Systems outside cable plant one-lines, schematics and flow diagrams for power plant systems and other required utility drawings.Â Responsibilities associated with maintaining the documentation includes on-site field surveys and data collection verification utilizing a GPS survey grade data collection equipment, securing construction phase and as built drawings in various formats (paper or electronic) and converting those formats into updates of the various utility CAD files and maps. The Engineering Technician manages the Utilities GPS data collection system equipment and required software, standards for utilization of the equipment, staff training, management and verification and incorporation of all data collected into respective CAD files and procurement of replacement systems as required. This position also assists the Utility Engineering staff to create project designs, field investigation services, material specifications, material procurement, project estimates and worksite inspections on utility projects and provides Utilities CAD system administrative services such as troubleshooting issues and operating problems, maintaining a plotter and a scanner, software licensing and upgrades, training to staff and procurement of supplies.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of customers. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle confidential material with discretion is also essential to the success of this position.
