Under the general supervision from the Assistant Athletic Director of Facilities and Operations, employees in this classification perform electrical and/or mechanical and HVAC maintenance tasks of substantial complexity. In addition, employees perform duties of moderate complexity in facility and plumbing maintenance. Employees at the Premium classification cover a broader range of responsibility to include but not limited to estimate jobs, determine job scope, and prioritize accordingly.
The Maintenance Person III Premium has primary maintenance operation responsibility of the Athletic Department's two 75,000 square foot recreation facilities for students, faculty and staff (Arrillaga Outdoor Education and Recreation Center & Arrillaga Center for Sports and Recreation), while being a team member of a crew that also oversees the maintenance of additional recreation and pool facilities on Stanford University's main campus.
The duties listed below are designed to provide a representative sampling of key tasks and/or responsibilities associated with the job; they are not intended to be a complete list of all the duties performed by employees in the classification. Your responsibilities include: Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance
Under general supervision, performs Journey level electrical and mechanical work involved with the installation, maintenance, operation and repair of the Athletic Department's two campus recreation center's electrical and mechanical equipment
Installs new and replaces switches, receptacles, light fixtures, ballast's, and relamps light fixtures
Does repair on a variety of equipment and machines such as pumps, fans, blowers, motors of various sizes and types, switches, and controls
Makes electrical hook-ups to include installation of conduit, wire, cable, pull boxes, transformers, and switches required in making additions, extensions, or alterations in electrical systems
Troubleshoot 1 and 3 phase motors
Fabricate equipment and apparatus according to sketches or verbal instructions
Under general supervision and working alongside the department's HVAC Lead, performs Journey level HVAC work involved with the installation, maintenance, operation and repair of the Athletic Department's two campus recreation center's HVAC equipment
Perform preventive maintenance and repair on chillers, boilers, refrigerators, damper controls and motors, thermostats, ice machines, humidifiers, appliances etc.
Troubleshoot, adjust and repair inoperative systems; repair and restore to service: thermostat and controls
Replace refrigerant and lubricate air-conditioning systems
Replace air filters and fan/drive belts
Cleans and maintains motors and trouble shoot problem equipment
Repair doors, locks, stops and jams
Patch holes in walls and ceilings
Paint interior walls, partitions
Build shelves, bookcases, and support structures
Move furniture and machinery by hand or machine
Pick-up construction materials at supply houses Plumbing Maintenance
Repair hot water heaters, water and sanitary lines, storm drains, toilets, sinks, showers, boilers, heat exchangers, valves, pumps, drinking fountains, and/or general plumbing and utility controls/ systems
Reinstall or replace toilets, faucets, drinking fountains and showers
Cut, bend, solder, and thread pipe
Assemble small water pipe fittings
Bleed hot water and steam heating systems
Repair or replace thermo-couples, gas control valves heat exchangers.
Other Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
When directed, responds to requests for repair and maintenance outside of normal work tasks.
Maintains electronic work orders assigned through online work order system.
Notifies supervisor when follow up work is necessary or additional resources are required.
Ensures compliance with OSHA, Universal Plumbing Code, Uniform Mechanical Code and NEC standard, manufacturer requirements, and local/county/state codes.
Assists Facility Managers in providing equipment/asset data information to keep program current and up to date.
Provides high quality workmanship in tasks performed.
Maintain harmonious relations with co-workers, patrons and other staff members.
Orders materials in a timely manner, to avoid work order delays / rescheduling.
Demonstrate ability to follow appropriate protocol to keep all tools, equipment and keys secure at all times

Customer Service: Maintain a positive service attitude and approach to students, faculty, staff and visitors to the University. Performs assigned duties in such a way to contribute to internal/external customer satisfaction and confidence in the services provided.
Working Conditions: *Work areas are inside/interior and outside/exterior of the Athletic Department's Aquatic and Recreation Center Facilities. Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions:
Able to stoop, kneel, carry, push and pull, ascend/descend stairs, climb on ladders, climb on roofs, and crawl in confined spaces on a regular basis.
The ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds frequently and/or 40 pounds occasionally.
May be required to work overtime and ability to respond to emergency calls at night or on weekends.
Required to wear appropriate uniform.
Works in all types of weather inside and outside.
Wears respirator and other protective safety equipment and clothing as required and needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Knowledge and ability to use and work with various and tools materials found in the work place required to complete the task.
Ability to work independently, on a crew and/or with little supervision.
Ability to read and follow blueprints.
Appropriately follows oral and written directions.
Ability to install and maintain plumbing equipment, fixtures and appliances.
Ability to troubleshoot and repair motors, fans, and blowers.
Skilled in electrical systems and equipment.
Experience working with brass, steel, cast iron, copper, glass and plastic piping.
Knowledge of building codes in the trade. May be called upon on to help in other trades.
Capable of learning and applying safe work practices and procedures, including but not limited to: proper use and care of respirators, hazardous waste management and handling, lockout tag out procedures, Injury and Illness Prevention Program, Confined Space procedures, CPR, and chemical safe practices.
Valid California driver's license
Four years' experience in the HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and/or general maintenance trades.
Must demonstrate sufficient skill to qualify as a journey-level worker in one of these trades while at the same time be capable of performing work of moderate complexity in at least two other trades.
Must pass background check.
