The USC Wrigley Institute for Environmental Studies is seeking a Facilities Technician at the USC Wrigley Marine Science Center on Catalina Island.
Under the supervision of the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Technician is responsible for providing general maintenance, landscaping, and custodial services for the campus and residential units.
Provides general maintenance and repairs for facilities and equipment (e.g., air conditioners, heaters, appliances, furniture, pumps, copiers, door locks, cabinets, sinks, toilets, etc.), which may include electrical, carpentry, painting, plumbing and locksmith services. Performs installation work and on-going preventative maintenance. Resolves problems and follows through on work order requests
Provides custodial services for assigned office and laboratory facilities, including restrooms. Includes dusting, scrubbing, sweeping, mopping. Includes trash collection and disposal.
Performs basic ground maintenance of site and staff housing areas. Includes trash removal and dumping, raking, pruning, weeding, and brush clearance.
Assists with loading and unloading of passengersâ gear and supplies aboard MV Miss Christi or other support ships, transporting materials between the docks and spaces around campus and/or Two Harbors residential park.
Oversees routine maintenance inspections of facilities for deficiencies, health and safety hazards, and/or code violations. Oversees facility maintenance staff and/or temporary workers as assigned. Oversees facility services in absence of facility manager or coordinator.
Assists with special projects as needed or required.
An interest in environmentalism or sustainability is a plus!
Minimum Education: High School or equivalent; combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
Preferred Education: Bachelorâs Degree or Specialized/Technical Training
Minimum 1 year of experience (2 years preferred) in general maintenance and repair for carpentry, electrical, plumbing, locksmith, painting, mechanics and engineering (e.g., air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration systems) trades.
Provides a professional image at all times through appearance and dress
Able to work well independently with little supervision
Promote positive relationships in communication and cooperation with all coworkers and guests
Hours: M-F 8:00am-4:30pm Work location:Wrigley Marine Science Center, Catalina Island, CA. Position is eligible for USC benefits and is open until filled.
