The New York City School Construction Authority (NYCSCA) builds and renovates public schools throughout all of the boroughs. We believe that schools should be efficiently designed and constructed; they should be safe, attractive and environmentally sound. The SCA’s responsibilities span the life of each project (new schools, additions, and capital improvements to existing schools) from planning, real estate, budgeting, scoping, and designing, to construction completion.
We have two excellent career opportunities for Technical Inspectors in our Building Code compliance and Construction Inspection Divisions. In these positions you will be responsible for inspecting regulatory documentation and field construction sites/facilities to ensure compliance with relevant construction documents, codes and standards.
Responsibilities include: Interpret complex plans and specifications; confer with Engineers, Architects and Project Officers; assist & advise Project Management, Expediters, applicants, contractor/sub-contractors & Construction Manager’s; prepare detailed inspection; maintain computerized records of files & reports on the progress of projects; maintain updated information on all relevant codes, specifications, state and local laws, etc.; review regulatory documents; assist Plan Examiners/Engineers to achieve signoffs; review laboratory tests to ensure that materials meet specifications.
High school diploma or its educational equivalent. Eight years of relevant building construction experience; four years must have been working in any of the following areas; inspection, quality assurance, electrician, plumber, HVAC, roofing, masonry, architectural/civil, windows and doors, regulatory documentation, etc.
Selective Certification for Special Experience.
