UW Facilities manages the University’s buildings, infrastructure and land, with more than 1,100 employees in a variety of fields. The Asset Management group includes Capital & Space Management, Real Estate, Sustainability and other teams responsible for planning and workload management. The Operations group includes Project Delivery, Maintenance & Construction, Campus Utilities & Operations, Building Services, Transportation Services and Safety. Supporting these groups, as well as the separate Emergency Management team, are the Business Intelligence & Information Technology group and the Finance & Administration group.
Maintenance & Construction has an outstanding opportunity for a Maintenance Mechanic 2 .
Under the direction of the supervisor and lead, perform skilled work in the operation, maintenance, repair, remodeling and construction of buildings, grounds, machinery, facilities, and equipment.
Work involves repair, installation and maintenance of physical facilities requiring skilled mechanical and trades work and a good working knowledge of several related skill fields such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, welding and machinist work.
Work independently in troubleshooting and completing routine corrective and preventive maintenance assignments.
Repair of buildings, facilities and equipment such as windows, window blinds and screens, doors, patching and painting of interior spaces, minor plumbing repair, masonry repair, shelving removal and installation, carpentry repairs, replace ceiling tiles, laminate repairs.
Perform preventative maintenance on mechanical equipment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
•Perform the following typical tasks: oPatch and paint walls oPerform preventative maintenance and repairs on all types of mechanical equipment. oRemove, repair and replace ceiling tiles oRepair windows, doors, screens, floors, floor coverings and painted surfaces. oPerform journey level tasks in machinery mechanics; such as repair and replacement of drive belts, motors etc. on-air handling equipment. oMaintain boilers, repair kitchen equipment and exhaust fans oAdjust door closers oHang shower curtains oHook shower drains oTighten toilet seats oOperate various power tools in a skilled manner oMay assist, coordinate and/or work with other trades and journey level personnel
•Perform semi-skilled tasks in multiple trades including electrician and plumbing work. oReplace lighting ballasts and lamps. oReplace showers heads oRepairing leaking faucets oInstall shower sweeps •Operate machinery such as forklifts and scissor-lifts.
•Load and unload materials and supplies.
•Operate vehicles such as UW vans and trucks to transport tools, equipment and personnel to various job sites.
•Keep supervisor informed of project status and work progress, required project materials and equipment.
•May instruct semi-skilled workers.
•Communicate and coordinate with other UW Facilities shops to facilitate work.
•Know and comply with occupational health and safety regulations specific to the work and conduct on the job, including Material Safety Data Sheet (DS) instructions, Hazard Review Checklists (HRCs) and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
•Comply with all UW and UW Facilities policies and procedures, FMC protocols, i.e., Individual Accountability Protocols (IAP).
•Support all management directives and the vision and values of FMC.
•Participate in and follow through with FMC process improvement initiatives, including Balanced Scorecard (BSC), incorporating metrics and Lean principles into internal work processes, and promoting employee engagement in continuous improvements and innovation.
•Actively participate in meetings and training as scheduled.
•Provide excellent customer service through effective, courteous and professional interactions with clients, colleagues and the campus community.

•Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a journey worker, OR full-journey status in a union;
OR four years' applicable work experience.
Vocational training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis.
•Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license required.

•Demonstrated successful ability in taking direction, working well with others and as a member of a team. •Demonstrated excellent effective verbal and written communication skills. •Possession of a valid Washington State driver’s license.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
•Knowledge and practical experience with WISHA (Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act) and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act) regulations. •Demonstrated proficiency with standard productivity software including Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent products

•May be required to accept variable work shift. •Work may require access to confined spaces and heights using approved safety precautions. •Ability to lift and move heavy material may be required. •Must be able to work in a non-smoking environment. •Regular and predictable attendance is required. •Possession of a valid Washington State Driver’s License or a license recognized as valid by the State of Washington •Approved footwear must be provided by the employee and worn on the job (footwear expense may be reimbursed per allowance guidelines). •Must participate in medical screening/monitoring (such as TB screening and proof of measles inoculation) required for work assignments in locations, including but not limited to, nonhuman primate areas, the Animal Research and Care Facility, and the University of Washington Medical Center
