Position Description Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Under minimum supervision constructs, installs, repairs, maintains and operates refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilating and auxiliary and related equipment. * Will perform the same work on air compressors and vacuum pumps whether or not associated with the above equipment. * Shift workers assigned to Building 600 acknowledge all Laboratory alarms in the control room and make appropriate notifications.
Position Requirements Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Minimum 6 years total experience, composed of 4 years apprenticeship, plus 2 years' experience or 6-8 years total experience composed of formal trade school, plus minimum 2 years' experience or 8 years' experience (no formal training). * Must have a strong background working on absorption, reciprocating and centrifugal equipment. * Must possess EPA Universal Certification. * Ability to demonstrate brazing techniques. * Familiarity with reading blueprints and HVAC wiring schematics. * An understanding of building management systems controls. * Knowledge of cooling tower maintenance. * Requires the ability to drive a government vehicle and have a valid Driver's License
Other Requirements * Must meet the medical requirements of the "Job Assessment Form" * Must have a telephone and must provide the number to BNL for callout and contact purposes * Must possess written and verbal skills. * Must be capable of following written instruction procedures, work orders, and similar documents. * Must possess the writing skills to sufficiently complete work orders and other required documents * Must be able to communicate verbally with customers, fellow workers, and supervisors * Must have had a verifiable "acceptable leave record" in prior employment * Must be able to complete all the requirements of the Job Training Assessment
