Francis Parker School is a coeducational independent day school in San Diego, California with 1300 students in grades JK-12. Overlooking Mission Valley, two separate campuses serve students in Lower School – junior kindergarten through 5th grade; Middle School – 6th grade through 8th grade and Upper School – 9th grade through 12th grade. As a college preparatory school Parker offers a comprehensive program that includes twenty-five advanced placement courses as well as a rich palette of electives – all designed to meet the individual needs of our students.
The Director of Operations and Facilities reports directly to the Assistant Head of School for Finance and Operations and is responsible for the oversight of the physical plant, building maintenance, campus grounds, food services, janitorial services and transportation. Transportation, Maintenance and Facilities, third party vendors in Food Services and Janitorial Services are on both campuses will report directly to this position. This position is responsible for ensuring that physical needs of Events are met and prepared for and must be familiar with software for Scheduling and be willing to create and manage a facility management inventory system that is integrated into the School System Management.
Oversee the physical operation of the entire school and its programs.
Manage the careful maintenance of buildings and grounds and cleaning programs that keep the school’s appearance in exemplary condition.
Supervise staff members within the facilities department: third party janitorial service and grounds crew
Ensure facility readiness for day-to-day events as well as special events.
Manage and engage the Food Service for the school.
Work with and support the Director of Security, Environmental Health and Safety to maintain the School to the standards of safety set by the School in all aspects of the facility. Serve on the Safety Committee. Assist and execute the implementation of needed security and safety in the facility and maintenance arena as determined by the Safety and Security team.
Work with the Manager of Transportation to ensure effective Transportation services for the Home to School program as well as the day to day needs for Athletics and Program related field trips.
Oversee the work of all outside contractors related to facilities, maintenance and transportation, directly or via departmental managers, to ensure compliance with contractual agreements and budgetary restrictions. Arrange bids and develop specifications for all outside contractual work for the facility.
Develop and implement and ongoing equipment replacement program. Including implementing and managing systems for reporting, tracking and implementing projects and needs within the school. Coordinate with Director for Instructional Technology and third party support to ensure technology support needs are met.
Establish policies and protocols that meet all required maintenance standards as required by law and work with the administration to ensure compliance with all regional, state, and federal permitting and laws as they impact the school.
Devise and manage an annual departmental budget
Supervise receiving function, ensuring receipt of goods is effectively recorded and matched to PO’s within the purchasing system and items are delivered to the correct recipient.
Assume responsibility for other projects as assigned by the Assistant Head of School for Finance and Operations
Assist with special construction projects, manage equipment inventory, establish and create inventory system for equipment alongside the department of Information Technology, working with IT and Security to ensure the electronic surveillance, student tracking and WIFI are in good repair and reliability at all times.
Bachelor’s degree in business, construction management, hospitality management, or related discipline
5 - 10 years of experience in a supervisory/management role showing project management experience, with a demonstrated experience managing areas such as maintenance, plumbing, electrical, HVAC systems, carpentry, construction, food service, janitorial, grounds keeping, facility systems management.
Technologically savvy, including ability to understand and implement systems to manage property, plant and equipment inventory.
Prior successful experience in an educational or similar institution with multiple campuses preferred
Demonstrated Project Management Skills and experience managing construction and/or building projects
Strong supervisory, organizational, technical, and analytical skills, and passion for detail in implementation of organization and technical solutions.
Proven success developing and balancing an annual budget
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, Able to work collaboratively with a team and across divisions
Problem solver with a high degree of diplomacy
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to pick up and carry up to 25 lbs
Demonstrated strong cultural competency
