Responsibilities: Must be mature, adaptable and have the capacity to work pleasantly and tactfully with fellow employees, faculty, students and staff; able to carry out all the essential duties and responsibilities of a HVAC Service Technician. This work covers but is not limited to all commercial and residential HVAC systems, air handler units and refrigeration units above and below with a refrigeration license. Duties: -
Perform all preventative maintenance work associated with Air Handler Units and equipment. -
Evaluate, troubleshoot, and repair commercial trade HVAC systems, equipment, and components -
Perform preventative maintenance of commercial HVAC specific systems, equipment, and components -
Install, troubleshoot, service and repair of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Units below and above with a refrigeration license. -
Install/Repair but not limited to Ice Makers and Ice Flakers, Spilt AC Units, packaged units, self-contained units, refrigerated incubators, walk-in coolers, walk-in freezers, blast chillers, window A/C’s, water fountains, AHU’s, low and high pressure systems -
Accurately document all job-specific troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance on Service work orders and submit them to the Service Dispatcher in a timely manner -
Must be able to work alone and plan and generate workload. Complete work in a timely manner -
Review possible projects, order supplies, plan work, communicate with other trade personnel, customers and contractors. Inspect work of department to ensure quality of finished product. -
Follow inspection and service procedures outlined in the equipment manuals -
Ability to work with computer technology – in particular, IPAD’s for the Work Order and PM program, time management program, maintain Refrigerant Logs, etc. -
Maintain time and production records. Estimate, requisition, and inspect materials. -
Must Respond to and assess emergency calls at the request of Campus Police or the duty manager off hours -
Requires first response for various issues including stabilize and remedy the situation as needed. -
Communicating effectively with customers and service team to build strong relationships internally and externally. Requirements: -
Able and willing and able to work overtime and be available for non-shift and after hour calls. Must have high school diploma or general education degree (GED). Vocational School Training preferred. Must hold a HVAC Certificate with a EPA Certification or have a Massachusetts Refrigeration License with three (3) years experience working on systems over ten (10) tons. -
Must have a strong working knowledge of commercial chilled water systems including chiller (centrifugal and reciprocating) and tower equipment, pumps, piping, associated controls, and electrical circuits. -
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to perform work on mechanical and electrical components of the system. Ability to speak English. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. -
Communicate clearly and concisely and be able to relay instructions and directions to others. -
A valid driver’s license is a condition of initial and continued employment. Operate assigned equipment and vehicle. -
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
