Description: Plumber installs, repairs and maintains plumbing systems and fixtures to keep the University in a safe and sanitary condition; provides clean and safe drinking water; maintains and installs drain, sewer and storm lines. This position reads blueprints, drawings and specification to determine the layout of plumbing systems, water supply networks and waste and drainage systems. The Plumber will then plan, install and service plumbing systems, fixtures, piping equipment and control according to state and local codes to ensure the safety and well being of all concerned. These piping systems may be used to transport water, waste or hot liquids. Performs other assigned duties. Primary Function of Organizational Unit: The Physical Plant is responsible for providing services relative to building and grounds maintenance, utilities, transportation, trash removal, central receiving, recycling, disposition of surplus property and moving and hauling. In addition, the Physical Plant has expanding responsibilities that includes providing support services for the instruction and research programs to achieve the University's mission, goals and objectives. Maintains and improves and expands all campus buildings, campus image and education opportunities for all people. More specifically, the functions involve energy conservation, building renovation/repair, occupational safety and health, landscape design, event planning, vehicle and equipment maintenance/repair, motor pool and housekeeping services to 15 residence halls, 40 academic buildings, 15 research buildings, 21 support buildings and 19 university farm buildings; campus lighting, water and sewer, and electrical distribution system. Moreover, the Skilled Trades Department, inclusive of the Plumbing unit, is responsible for repair, maintenance and preventive maintenance of campus facilities. Internal job number: 004483 Requirements: High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s). Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. Preferred: At least three (3) years of progressive experience in the repair, replacement or construction of piping systems.
