Description of Work:
TRADESPECIFIC: UNL Building Systems Maintenance seeks an individual with skills and experience to perform installation, maintenance, and repair of all types of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment including walk-in coolers, walk-in freezers, ice machines, and refrigeration chillers. Requires knowledge of building systems and maintenance relating to commercial refrigeration systems, associated HVAC control systems, and all codes and supporting systems that apply to each. Employee will use schematics, blueprint drawings, and all trade tools and systems to complete the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of HVAC and Refrigeration systems.
PREVENTIVEMAINTENANCE: Perform all phases of general, aesthetic, and preventive maintenance within supervisor's specific guidelines. Responsible for assisting Zone Preventive Maintenance Senior and Zone Preventive Maintenance Lead on tasks and projects related to the systematic inspection, detection, and correction of incipient failures of equipment or facilities either before they occur or before they develop into major defects. This position works independently on tasks and performs moderately complex to complex tasks with varying levels of supervision. This position will be expected to interact with customers and other employees in a professional manner that enhances work effectiveness for the zone Preventive Maintenance crew.
GENERAL: Must be available 24/7 by personal cell phone to support daily operations and respond to campus emergencies, as well as periodic on-call rotations on weekends and after hours. Minimum Required Qualifications:
High school or equivalent experience plus three years of prior successful work experience.
Work experience that demonstrates the ability to follow written and verbal directions. Demonstrated effective work habits including: commitment to quality work, time management and organizational skills, attention to detail, able to multitask, and good record keeping skills. Experience that proves good judgement in making decisions, asking for help, bringing forward problems, and communicating with others, and working around moving machinery and electricity. Able to learn and act on new technical and/or complex information quickly.
All applicants must possess a valid driver's license and the ability to pass a DMV background check authorizing them to operate university vehicles.
Associate's or equivalent education, experience or combination of each in the building trades or participation in an apprentice program.
Two years of experience installing, maintaining, repairing all types of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment, including walk-in coolers, walk-in freezers, ice machines, refrigeration chillers. Evidence of performing or developing preventive maintenance checks and services, schedules, and interpreting diagnostic information related to proactive maintenance programs. Knowledge of or experience with building codes, electrical codes and fire codes.
Possess an EPA refrigerant handling (Type II) certification and a Nebraska Journeyman Electrician license.
