Normal Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm
Job Summary: The Director of Facilities Engineering directs the engineering function for the Facilities Operation department to deliver professional engineering services in support of the operation and maintenance of building mechanical systems on campus.
Additional Department Summary: The Director Facilities Engineering directs mechanical engineering operations in support of the University of Alabama Facilities Department. Works for Associate Director of Facilities Operations and with Maintenance Managers.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering and ten (10) years of experience in the engineering field working primarily with facilities design and operation.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: An Alabama PE license or ability to obtain within 9 months of hire is necessary. Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report as determined by the insurance carrier. Final candidates who are not current University of Alabama employees must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.
Skills and Knowledge: Must have proficiency in technical matters concerning facility operations such as HVAC controls, piping design, and building design. Must have an in depth knowledge of building life safety codes. Good written and verbal communications skills. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products and the ability to effectively use these for purposes of managing personnel, budgets, inventories, purchasing, communicating, and reporting. Ability to read, interpret and identify problems with blueprints, schematics and plans.
Preferred Qualifications: An advanced degree. Supervisory experience of other engineers/architects. Project management and field investigation experience.
