Director – Engineering Services Maine Medical Center Portland, ME Full Time, Days
Maine Medical Center is seeking a Director – Engineering Services in Portland. This position administers and directs program for the operation and maintenance of entire physical plant including utilities, physical environment and building structures.
Planning, directing, and controlling all departmental functions from budgets to special projects. Coordinates departmental activities with other departments to assure that the effective utilization of the physical environment, systems and staff contributes to good patient care.
Prepares departmental budgets, analyzes costs and work schedules, sets priorities, expedites operations and repairs.
Coordinates and directs activities of contractors engaged repairs, capital replacement and engineering related construction projects. Responsible for departmental personnel matters including employment, training, termination and discipline.
Operation and maintenance of over 2 million SF across 3 campuses.
HVAC/Mechanical, electric, plumbing, carpentry, paint, and general maintenance activities.
Currently 53+ FTES within Engineering.
Closely aligned with Facilities Design & Construction Team and Safety/Emergency Management.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent work-related experience and training.
Registration as a Professional Engineer is desirable.
Eight + years of experience in engineering in the following areas: mechanical and electrical power equipment systems, utilities, building construction and maintenance. Must have five (5) years of experience in a supervisory capacity and a proven leadership track record is highly desirable.. In lieu of education, equivalent work-related experience and training, preferably in mechanical or electrical, supplemented with specialized training in business management or related experience.
Oral and written communication proficiency to converse with staff, contractors, engineering consultants, and others; gather and analyze data for reports, and to keep abreast of new developments.
Analytical ability required to interpret and analyze engineering data, to conduct engineering studies and for the preparation of departmental reports, budgets and staffing plans.
Spatial perception is required to read and understand intricate working drawings and blueprints for equipment design, selection and installation, piping, HVAC and power distribution layout and control, and for building construction.
Interpersonal skills needed to interact effectively with all levels of hospital personnel as well as outside agency personnel.
Ability to understand and work with applicable standards, codes and regulations established by FGI, Joint Commission, federal, state, and local authorities.
Ability to analyze and make recommendations on equipment and machine design changes and/or modifications.
Supervisory and managerial ability to assume overall responsibility for engineering and maintenance of hospital services, and buildings and to plan and direct the activities of all departmental personnel.
