Bachelor's Degree in a related field. Three years of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of fire alarm and/or suppression systems or electronics. Specific knowledge and experience with Edwards and Notifier fire alarm systems and/or other protection systems preferred. Knowledge of building operations to include HVAC controls and utilities systems preferred. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:
Provides advanced level technical and supervision over the construction, installation, operation and maintenance of fire and life safety systems and their components. Responsible for ensuring the proper installation, maintenance, modification, compliance and repair of fire alarm, fire sprinkler, fire suppression and other life safety systems. This is a working-supervisor position.
Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):
This is a working-supervisor position. Supervises Fire & Life Safety technicians in performing preventive and routine maintenance on campus fire detection/alarms and fire suppression systems to include dry pipe, wet pipe, pre-actions, deluge, FM200, kitchen fire suppression, smoke evacuation, and other life safety systems. Monitors and maintains the operation and integrity of fire and life safety systems. Troubleshoots and corrects complex problems with all safety systems. Conducts follow-up investigations as needed. Installs fire detection and suppression system devices. Performs code-required maintenance of campus fire and life safety systems. Assists and directs contractors with required Fire and Life safety inspections and takes corrective action to address any deficiencies identified. Completes departmental reports and records proper documentation to include gathering data through field measurements and observations, analysis and various research methods. Conducts quality control inspections for work completed by Fire Safety Systems Specialists and contractors and recommends appropriate corrective actions. Performs other related duties as assigned.
