Chief Engineer

The Chief Engineer reports to the Healthcare Facilities Manager and is responsible for engineering operations at Marquam Hill Healthcare facilities. Responsibilities include managing staff, vendors, and contractors to accomplish modifications, maintenance, repairs, renovations, energy usage monitoring, contract management, and materials management. The Chief Engineer serves as the steward of healthcare facilities preventive maintenance program, as well as the steward of the mechanical capital renewal program. This requires a high degree of problem solving in a fast paced, team-based atmosphere. Attention to continuous process improvement to drive change and evolve with the needs of the business. Acts as trusted advisor often explaining complex technical aspects of infrastructure to clinical staff. The Chief Engineer utilizes advanced skills to perform complex preventive maintenance and corrective repair of buildings, industrial systems, vehicles, equipment, and grounds. Working under limited supervision, monitors building system operations and performance. Utilizes several trade skills such as plumbing, electrical, heating and cooling. The Chief Engineer serves as the system/subject matter expert for capital construction activities and assists design professionals in the preparation of detailed drawings. The Chief Engineer acts as the owners representative on mechanical projects, directly supervising project coordinators, technicians or mechanical contractors on small mechanical projects and as an integral part of the project team for medium to large mechanical capital projects. This role supports the institutional mission and vision by providing safe, compliant, reliable, and inviting facilities while being aggressive in fiscal management in a customer-oriented way. Success in this position is critical to maintaining uninterrupted business operations for the healthcare mission, and directly contributes to achieving OHSUs financial and mission goals. This position directly supervises the technical staff that supports the operation and maintenance of 3.5 million square feet of inpatient adult and pediatric hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, medical office buildings, and outpatient clinics. This individual plays a key role in compliance with DNV, CMS, OSHA, and all authorities having regulatory jurisdiction.
