Assist Facilities, Operations and Maintenance (FOM) in providing building and preventative maintenance for services across Illinois Tech's Mies campus to ensure a safe, comfortable environment for students, staff, faculty, and tenants. Monitors, operates, maintains, and repairs building equipment and systems including, but not limited to, heating, ventilation, cooling, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, infrastructure, carpentry, and grounds maintenance including snow removal. Work under direct supervision of the Area Manager (AM)/Lead Building Engineer (LBE). Perform all duties in compliance with established university safety requirements and established work order procedures. This position requires a combination of on-the-job training and classroom learning.

Education & Experience:
1. High School diploma or GED required. 2. Must attend an Illinois Tech/Local 399 approved school and successfully complete the approved classes while residing in this position. 3. Employees in this position are subject to a 120-day probationary period. 4. Experience within a high-rise building with complex systems is preferred. 5. Experience with HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and electrical is preferred. 6. Experience with boiler/pressure vessels is preferred. 7. Experience working in a variety of commercial occupancy buildings with tenants or in an educational or hospitality environment is preferred. 8. Formal training, education, or certification in electrical is a plus. 9. Prior experience as a first responder to building problems is a plus.
Knowledge & Skills:
1. Knowledge and ability to work and produce documents in Excel, Word, and Outlook is a plus. 2. Technical knowledge of computerized control and building automation software and systems is preferred. 3. Knowledge of general mechanical systems, boilers, electricity, plumbing, soldering, brazing, welding, and HVAC controls is preferred. 4. Preferred applicant is able to read and interpret documents, schematics, and blueprints. 5. Must be able to perform mathematical functions relevant to the position. Knowledge & Skills: 1. Communicate effectively in English; both verbal and written. 2. Proficiency in problem-solving (troubleshooting) and development of solutions in a complex work environment. 3. Experience working independently and on a team. 4.
