Detailed Job Description The College of Art and Design Facilities team invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Imaging Systems Lab, Production Manager. This hourly position is primarily responsible for managing the operation and production services of the Imaging Systems Lab. The Imaging Systems Lab is a fine art print and photographic production facility that not only serves the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences but the students, staff and faculty of the College of Art and Design and the university, as well.
This position is responsible for overall operation of this state of the art facility, which includes daily production, managing the student employee workforce, systems and machine maintenance, point of sale system, customer service/support, and supplies/budget management. The Imaging Systems Lab, Production Manager reports directly to the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences (SPAS) Operations Manager.
Responsible for technical support and overall management of the lab's operation and production.
Daily and long-term production management and workflow oversight.
Quality control management, color management, equipment and process management, chemical mixing, troubleshooting, and customer support.
Supervise approximately 12 student employees that includes interviewing, hiring, scheduling, training, reviewing, and overall management of these individuals. Manage, train and supervise use of point-of-sale lab software.
Oversee and is responsible for managing daily workflow, resolving production problems, responding to and resolving customer complaints.
Manage chemical inventory, purchasing, mixing, and safe distribution and safe handling practices.
Safe chemical handling: responsible for instruction, enforcement and compliance with all chemical and lab safety operating practices/protocols, including the proper use and handling of all hazardous equipment/materials within SPAS. Maintains binders(s) with current OSHA required Safety Data Sheets for hazardous chemicals and materials. Manages hazardous waste collection and removal.
Manages personal safety equipment for students, faculty and staff.
Inspects, adjusts, repairs, installs, troubleshoots and performs periodic preventative maintenance on equipment.
Works with manufacturers and vendors to modify, upgrade, repair, and as needed, replace equipment and facilities support devices/infrastructure.
Job management and oversight, includes job workflow, and cost and revenue management. Manage and reconcile all RIT internal account invoices, customer payments, etc.
Actively involved in collaborating with and educating faculty and staff on lab, process, quality management, and other pertinent printing and lab production issues.
Assist as necessary with all marketing and lab promotion activities.

Required Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in a Photography field
1-3 years Service Bureau, Photo Lab operations management or equivalent experience
Extensive background in photography and photographic processes
Extensive experience with inkjet printing devices, software and workflows
Good working knowledge of Microsoft and Apple operating systems and peripheral device management
Good working knowledge of Adobe software suite, especially Photoshop, as well as print drivers, and RIPs
Color management, device calibration/profiling and workflow experience
Traditional photographic processes knowledge, B&W, C41, RA4, etc.
Experience handling and managing chemicals and chemical processing devices
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Customer service experience
Understanding of, and experience in troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, plumbing and chemical systems, ideally in regards to lab and photographic equipment.
Mechanical and electrical knowledge a plus
