IUPUC is located one hour south of Indianapolis, 1-1/4 hours from Louisville, and 1-1/2 hours from Cincinnati. Columbus is known for its world class architecture, wonderful programs for young children, many parks, excellent philharmonic orchestra, and people trails. IUPUC has a staff of 60 full-time faculty with excellent credentials and enrolls 2,000 students annually.
The HVAC Technician will perform maintenance on all building equipment and systems, including HVAC, mechanical, and electrical.
Performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on campus buildings, facilities, equipment or machinery.
Diagnoses problems and determines corrective solutions, referring to and/or adhering to building codes, blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary.
Repairs or replaces defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools, and reassembles equipment.
May lead other maintenance staff on projects or assist in a general maintenance capacity when others are in a lead role.
Maintains parts, supplies, and equipment advising supervisor when supplies need to be ordered.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including general building maintenance duties. Drive University vehicles as needed. Work any shift as needed. 24-hour a day emergency response as needed. Assist with snow removal activities as necessary. Must be available to work during inclement weather (i.e. snow and ice) when weather emergencies dictate that the department is needed to take care of the campus.
High school diploma or GED
Certificate in DOL apprenticed trade (electrical/plumbing/HVAC/carpentry)
5 or more years Verifiable journey-level experience
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University Upon Hire
May be required to acquire and maintain a material-specific abatement certification, supervisor certification or other required certifications.

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to remain in a stationary position as well as the ability to move about the workplace for long durations. It requires effective communication, the ability to operate machinery, tools, and controls. The role requires the ability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs, and to position one's self in low level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/or gases. The role requires the ability to ascend to rooftops and move in tight spaces to perform and complete inspections. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
